East Mills Community school District is currently hiring for an Assistant Softball coach/sponsor. This position is available for the 2024-2025 season.

Title: Activity Sponsor

Work Relationship: Staff

Reports To: Principal

Consults With: Principal, Professional Staff, Students

Job Goal: To set up meetings and supervise the organization/practices.

 

Position Responsibilities:

 

  • Supervise organization and practices.
  • To see that the organization has a constitution or some form of rules and regulations for the organization on file in the Principal’s office and adequate copies for all members and/or participants.
  • To help plan activities and place activities on a master schedule coordinated with the activities director and approved by the High School Principal.
  • To see that the activities are carried out.
  • To prepare a follow-up, in writing, for all activities.
  • To apply and follow the Board of Education policy on student conduct.
  • Fill out requests for transportation forms and file with the principal well in advance of activity.
  • To help plan and supervise fundraisers in accordance with board policy.

Qualifications:

  • Possess a valid D.E. coaching authorization or the credentials of a certified teacher with an endorsement for coaching on file with the Board Secretary.
  • Demonstrated interest in and aptitude for performing the tasks listed 

under “Performance Responsibilities.”

  • Must exhibit high moral values and be able to serve as a favorable example to young people.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Reports to: Activities Director and Secondary Principal

 

Supervises: Assistant coaches, student athletes and student managers

 

Job Goal: To provide leadership, supervision, and organization of a specific athletic

activity, and to carry out the objectives of the total athletic program.

To include helping each participating student achieve a high level of skill, an 

appreciation for the values of discipline and an increased level of self-esteem.

 

Performance

Responsibilities:  

  1. Year-round responsibilities
  • 1.   Formulate objectives for the coming sport season as it would pertain to 
  •       player personnel and assistant coaching responsibilities. 
  • Keep abreast of new ideas and techniques by attending clinics and work-
  •       shops, reading in her/his field and encouraging assistant coach(s) to do the
  •       same.  The school district allows coaches to attend one clinic per year at 
  •       district expense, with the district picking up the fee for the clinic only.
  • Any and all purchase requests or any type will be done with a purchase order that will be approved by the Secondary Principal and the Superintendent prior to the actual purchase.  Failure to follow this procedure will mean that you will be responsible to pay any and all invoices without purchase orders.
  • Any written correspondence sent to students will be approved by the building principal prior to mailing or distribution. 
  • Any fundraisers for your sport will first be approved by the Board of Education at it’s regular monthly meeting.  Plan accordingly.
  • Be knowledgeable of rules and regulations concerning her/his sport, plus
  •       changes that  occur.  Head coaches will be responsible to attend rules
  •       meetings sponsored by the respective State Athletic organizations.
  • Be active in professional organizations such as Conference and State 
  •       coaches organizations.

 

  1. Seasonal Responsibilities
  1. Before Season
  •  Assist Athletic Director in registration of all athletes at the beginning of season.   This will include making sure all athletes have physicals         and proof of insurance.
  •  Be award of and post an emergency phone and doctor’s list.
  • Arrange for a systematic issuance of school equipment and determine which athlete has specified equipment.
  • Explain all regulations of the district and clarify all rules and expectations to athletes and to parents at the “Meet the Coaches” night specified for the respective sports season.
  • Clarify to athletes the letter award policy.
  • Select and instruct team managers on proper care of equipment, facilities, and other duties assigned.
  • Provide to the activities director for file purposes, a copy of the sports handbook (your rules, expectations, etc.) for the sport in which you’re coaching prior to the season.
  • Check arrangements for all bus trips with the Activities Director.

 

During Season 

  • Assume supervisory control over all phases of teams in the program, including practices and contests.  Students will be supervised at all times until they leave school grounds.
  • Assume responsibility for constant care of equipment, uniforms, and facilities being used.
  • Organize and schedule practice sessions on a regular basis.  Practices will be terminated and students out of the building by 6:00 P.M. on Wednesday evenings and no weekend practices will be scheduled.  Holiday practice schedules will require prior approval by the Board of Education.
  • Any overnight trips and trips longer than 150 miles must first be approved by the Board of Education at it’s regular monthly meeting.  Again, plan accordingly.
  • Apply discipline and implement team rules in a firm, positive, consistent and fair manner.
  • Emphasize safety precautions and use accepted training and injury prevention procedures.
  • Conduct oneself and the team in a professional,  ethical and sportsman-like manner during practices and contests.
  • Report outcome of the contests to the media.  A list of media contacts may be obtained from the Activities Director.
  • Instruct players on rules and rule changes along with new ideas and techniques.
  • Adheres to the rules and regulations of the Malvern School District regarding school bus regulations.
  • Directly supervise all practices, contests, and supervise or designate an adult supervisor of all dressing rooms and lock up all facilities at the close of each practice or contest.  Do not leave until all students have left the school grounds.
  • Accompany the varsity team to all interscholastic activities away and be the first in attendance at home events.
  • Be sure that you or one or more of the assistant coaches is responsible for the junior varsity and/or freshman team.

 

End of Season

  • Arrange for the systematic return of all school equipment and hold athletes responsible for all equipment not returned.
  • Arrange for cleaning, storing, and conducting an inventory of all equipment.  A printed copy of your inventory will be furnished to the Activities Director as soon as possible upon completion of the season.
  • Recommend student athletes who have fulfilled requirements for athletic letters, certificates or other awards.
  • Evaluate the past season.
  • Recommend additions and/or improvements for the care and maintenance of facilities.
  • Recommend to the Activities Director and Principal any personnel changes.
  • Submit recommendations for the schedule for the next year.
  • Select equipment and make recommendations for purchases for such to the Activities Director
  • Maintain records of team and individual accomplishments and submit a copy to the Activities Director.

 

Terms of Employment:     Compensation and duration of coaching season to be established by the Board of Education.

 

Assessment:         Assessment of the job performance will be evaluated by the Activities  Director and Secondary Principal.
