Job Type: Full Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt
Hours: Normal work shift for this position is 8 hours daily, Monday-Friday. Start time varies on departmental and seasonal needs. Seasonal work may require (4), 10 hour days.
East MS EPA is an EOE, including disability/vets.
JOB PURPOSE:
This position is the most basic entry-level for the Lineman Training Program for the construction, maintenance, and operation of overhead and underground distribution lines.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS [include but not limited to]:
Learn and apply the proper use of PPE.
Learn common tools and materials used in construction of distribution lines.
Identify hot legs of secondary, check voltage and install meters.
Gain an understanding of the hazardous conditions and duties of the job.
Load/Unload material, poles, and transformers.
Assist lineman with necessary tasks from the ground.
Climbing of poles for various tasks on de-energized structures
Assist in the framing of poles with supervision.
Make de-energized connects on meter poles for services.
Perform various tasks from the ground for setting/installing poles and anchors.
Works around hazardous equipment and energized power lines.
Works around excessive noise from machines with hearing protection.
Works in all temperatures and weather and will be exposed to nature [irritating plants, biting or stinging insects, snakes, dust etc].
Works on unlevel ground.
Exposure to traffic hazards.
Safeguards employees and public from hazards in and around work area.
Life, move, maneuver up to 100 pounds on a frequent basis, with assistance.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Successful completion of a lineman training program or equivalent.
Must possess a valid Class A commercial driver's license, in good standing.
Employees must be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods of time due to the inherently dangerous nature of work assignments.
Must be able to wear necessary PPE.
Must be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times a day.
Must be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather [rain, heat, sun, cold, storms] throughout a standard eight or ten-hour work day.
Must be able to work irregular and long hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Position requires on-call rotation.
Must be able to traverse [maneuver, walk, climb] various terrains [unlevel ground, steep embankments].
Must be able to write, read and comprehend written and verbal job instructions/information.
Must be able to communicate with others.
Must have sufficient eyesight to judge distances and coordination to get and use the appropriate equipment and tools.
Must be able to work with hands and fingers by seizing, holding, grasping, turning, touching, picking, and pinching.
Must have foot and leg control in order to operate vehicle/machinery/equipment controls.
Must have the ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds.
Successfully complete a pre-employment physical, drug, and alcohol screen and E-Verification.
