Hours: Normal work shift for this position is 8 hours daily, Monday-Friday. Start time varies on departmental and seasonal needs. Seasonal work may require (4), 10 hour days.
East MS EPA is an EOE, including disability/vets.
POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for providing support for EMEPA's operations by performing repairs and maintenance on all Association vehicles, equipment, and tools.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Performs the required repairs and mechanical work on all Association owned vehicles and power equipment.
- Repair body, welds, and paints vehicles and equipment.
- Performs or sees that the preventive maintenance on all Association owned vehicles and equipment is completed.
- Rebuilds vehicle components, including transmissions and engines.
- Maintains records daily and monthly; prepares necessary reports for all work performed.
- Conducts vehicle maintenance checks and inspections.
- Maintains D.O.T. inspections and completes necessary paperwork.
- All aspects of maintaining the interior and exterior of fleet vehicles.
- Utilizes mobile radio and mobile phone for communications.
- Emergency storm support.
- Perform any other duties assigned to fulfill the objectives of the Association.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
- Education and Accreditation(s): High School Diploma or equivalent, required. Completion of a recognized mechanic training program, apprenticeship, or equivalent, required.
- Experience: At least five (5) years of experience as a mechanic providing the full range of services to vehicles and equipment. Welding experience preferred.
- Knowledge: Must have experience with mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
- Abilities/Skills: Must be able to perform the activities necessary to complete work assignments. Must be able to complete a variety of reports and maintain accurate records. Must be proficient in problem solving, communication and attention to detail. Must be able to stay up to date with industry knowledge and technology.
- Driving: Must possess a valid Class A driver's license. Must have and maintain an insurable driving record.
- Equipment (including Safety/PPE): Must be able to operate digger derricks, bucket trucks, tractors, trenchers, pickups, chippers, dump bodied trucks, skid-steer, hydraulic lifts/jacks, hand and power tools, diagnostic testing equipment and chain saw. Must be able to operate two-way radio, personal computers, calculators, smartphone, desk-set telephone, printer, copier, scanner, fax, and other standard office equipment in the completion of duties. Association's standard PPE: hard hat, safety glasses, ear plugs, safety reflective vest, FR Clothing, safety toe shoes, work gloves, chain-saw chaps, metal welding/cutting helmet/goggles (as required for assigned job).
- Physical Demands: This position requires working in awkward and various positions such as, standing, sitting, twisting, climbing, crawling, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and from extreme heights. Physical exertion: is required by pulling, pushing, lifting, or carrying material and equipment of up to 50 lbs. frequently and 50-100 lbs. occasionally, with assistance. Extremities: working with hands and fingers requires lifting, seizing, holding, grasping, turning, touching, picking, and pinching; foot and leg control is required to operate vehicle/machinery/equipment controls, such as pedals, buttons, levers, cranks and entering and exiting vehicles/machinery, frequently. Sight: must be able to distinguish color, have clarity of vision to observe work being performed, including reading, and peripheral vision to be aware of work site and surroundings. Hearing: must be able to hear, understand and distinguish speech and other sounds. Speech: express and convey information to others accurately and audibly.
- Work Environment: Work is mainly in a shop environment but may require working at job sites when equipment needs repairs. This position requires working in various conditions including rain, extreme heat and cold temperatures, storms, with exposure to dogs and other animals/reptiles/insects and poisonous plants/vines/weeds and combative/disgruntled members and public. Works around hazardous and noisy equipment and energized power lines. Exposure to traffic hazards, falls, electrical shock and burns. Requires working on and traversing various terrains. Irregular and long hours including nights, weekends, and holidays, may be required. Must be willing to travel to district offices and off system which may include overnight stays, nights, weekends, and holidays to work storms, and attend meetings, training, seminars, and schools deemed necessary to enhance job skills. Must be available during emergency and storm conditions.
After an offer of employment has been made the Association requires a physical which will include both alcohol and drug testing.
