The Teacher will be responsible for planning and implementing an approved curriculum using the instructional techniques called for in the school’s mission and vision outlined in the charter.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Approved NMPED Background Check
  • Approved NMPED Teaching License in the primary content area (or state approved waiver)
  • Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in Content Area (strongly preferred)

REPORTS TO: Head administrator and/or designees assigned by Head administrator

JOB GOALS:

Each EMHS teacher is expected to be devoted to their students, to the school, and to the school’s mission, vision, goals, and objectives. Each East Mountain High School faculty member will:

  • Provide a safe and inclusive environment that encourages responsible risk-taking, fosters healthy psychological development, and teaches students how to learn from experiences.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on providing innovative curriculum, instruction, and assessment
  • Model personal, academic, and social lifelong learning skills by continually seeking to increase professional knowledge as well as improve instructional practices and student learning;
  • Provide transformative experiences and creative problem-solving opportunities for all students
  • Strive to shape forward-thinking leaders.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • A teacher’s duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Teaching from an approved EMHS curriculum and creating, maintaining, and/or updating the curriculum for the content area as needed.

Focusing on student learning, including establishing learning objectives, checking for understanding, and modeling student learning by working toward the following:

i. making knowledge accessible to all students.

ii. developing students’ cognitive capacity and respect for learning.

iii. maintaining a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning.

iv. implementing useful diagnostic and progress assessment measures to improve instruction and student learning including analyzing data from short-cycle assessments and other assessment data to inform instruction.

v. selecting and using effective instructional methods and learning materials.

vi. establishing a cooperative relationship with all assigned students.

vii. maintaining open lines of communication with parents/guardians and initiating communication when students are in need.

viii. fostering students' self-esteem, motivation, and sense of civic responsibility.

  • Focusing on the social-emotional learning of all students. Extending grace and patience to students and their families.
  • Dedicating to professional development in order to improve student’s ability to meet and exceed charter goals and implement the goals and objectives of the Professional Growth Plan.
  • Augmenting course content in the form of remediation, modification, and enrichment. Providing timely and meaningful input of student’s progress toward goals, implementing student's IEPs, providing timely and meaningful feedback prior to IEP meetings, and attending IEP conferences.
  • Participating in student support and intervention strategies (tutoring, Early Warning System, accommodations, and modifications, etc.) to meet all students at their individual achievement levels.
  • Serving and connecting to the EMHS community.
  • Preparing for and instructing classes with a high degree of professionalism:

i. developing innovative curriculum and lesson plans

ii. maintaining student records in a timely manner on the student information system

iii. completing pre/post assessment and other assessment analysis, etc.

  • Using various techniques including but not limited to the following:

i. inquiry based learning

ii. discovery learning

iii. project based learning and

iv. the Socratic method and classroom discussion.

  • Providing direct supervision of students within the classroom; before, during, and to the conclusion of a trip or activity; and as needed in safety plans, BIPs, emergency situations, etc.
  • Responding to inquiries in a timely manner (usually within 24 hours) from a variety of resources (other teachers, parents, administrators, students, staff, etc.) for the purpose of resolving issues and providing information and/or direction.
  • Integrating technology in the curriculum and use technology as an assessment tool.
  • Serving as a student advocate. Duties include:

i. Assistance with the student’s Next Step Plan

ii. having conferences with students and parents

iii. advocating for students’ needs

iv. pre-registration planning & coordinating of scheduling with the Guidance Office

v. performing such other activities as assigned to the Advocacy period.

  • Creating curriculum for and leading or co-leading an approved Discovery Project during the last few weeks of the spring term.
  • Orienting students to their coursework and communicating course requirements.
  • Maintaining the safety of the school community, enforcing the Honor Code and other school rules, and modeling proper behavior.
  • Collaborating with teachers, staff, students, parents, and community as appropriate.
  • Flexibility in teaching courses in an online or in-person environment as needed.
  • Professional Development

Each teacher is required to participate inEMHS’s professional development program. Duties might include, but are not limited to:

Required:

a. Meaningful and ongoing participation in the EMHS Professional Development program. Commitment to consistent attendance at professional learning sessions.

b. Developing and implementing an administrator-approved improvement plan.

c. Partaking in both informal and formal teacher evaluations/observations/team-teaching opportunities.

d. Maintaining PED requirements related to licensure. These requirements increase in responsibility and leadership as a teacher moves from level 1 to 3.

e. Communicating with colleagues in a positive and productive manner at all times (including during meetings, via e-mail, etc.)

f. Collaborating with other instructors

g. Participating in horizontal/vertical teaming and/or curriculum development

h. Consistent participation in EMHS Greenhouse, a faculty-led collaboration space

i. Sharing best practices with other staff

2. Serving as a mentor teacher

3. Being mentored by a mentor teacher

4. Attending outside educational opportunities (e.g. conferences outside of school in teaching practices and/core teaching area, additional endorsements, etc.)

  • Service to the EMHS Community might include, but is not limited to:
  • Serving on school committees including, but not limited to:

i. Governing Council committees

ii. Staff committees related to school operations

iii. Selected committees under the authority of the Head Administrator (e.g. education committee, policy committee, etc.)

  • Sponsoring a student club or activity
  • Coaching an NMAA approved EMHS varsity or junior varsity sport
  • Creating and maintaining a before or after school tutoring program
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head Administrator agreed to by teacher.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year to be established by the Head Administrator

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the position, contract, EMHS policies, and PED regulations.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $56,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
