JOB TITLE:  Middle School Technology Teacher

 

REPORTS TO:  Building Principal

 

SUMMARY:  Teaches Technology to students by performing the following duties.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other specific duties may be assigned.

  • Serves as a positive role model for students.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality on all school and student related issues.
  • Involves students in various school related activities.
  • Serves as a positive role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.
  • Helps instill in students the belief in practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
  • Plans, instructs and evaluates a technology program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.  Some examples would be demonstration, cooperative learning, teaching teams, lecture, manipulative and other technological aides.
  • Coordinates relations between school curriculum and technology skills
  • Design and deliver cohesive curriculum with a sequential unit of study and lesson delivery in technology.
  • Recommends and maintains appropriate digital resources for students and teachers.
  • Outstanding knowledge of current and emerging technologies.
  • Communicates with members of the District Technology department.
  • Assist with use of educational applications for staff.
  • Assists with the coordination and facilitation of afterschool workshops for teachers, staff and parents.
  • Designs and presents effective technology professional development for classroom teachers when requested.
  • Works effectively with all members of the staff and administration.
  • Prepares lesson plans following the state academic content standards.
  • Assigns lessons and homework as appropriate to subject or grade level.
  • Assess student’s progress through a variety of evaluative techniques and maintains records.
  • Reports student attendance to the office via the method designated by the building principal.
  • Maintains discipline in the classroom and school settings.
  • Integrates technology into the curriculum as often as possible.
  • Collaborates with other teachers to meet individual student needs.
  • Confers with parents to discuss student progress, problems, and the instructional program.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
  • Assist with the selection of technology and resource supplies for courses that are appropriate for students in age and development.
  • Exhibits student technology work in individual building and/or the district center displays when appropriate.
  • Acknowledges supports and celebrates student, building, and district achievements.
  • All other duties assigned

 

Professional Responsibilities:

 

Assumes responsibility for professional growth and development as related to local LPDC planning for renewal of license, keeping current in literature, research and techniques.

 

Participates in various faculty and professional meetings, conferences, and other school-related activities.

 

Teachers are encouraged to participate in one or more activities or student organizations, assisting pupils in selecting a course of study, and counseling students in adjustment and academic problems. 

 

Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.

 

Maintains required licenses and certificates.

 

Dresses in a professional manner that is appropriate for the assignment and/or activity.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Directly supervises all students in the classroom and building.  May supervise teacher aides and student teachers.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

 

USER-DEFINED:

The employee must have basic knowledge of board policies and procedures.

EDUCATION AND /OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) from a four-year accredited college or university.

 

Graduate-level coursework, experience, and/or current professional development in Instructional Technology.

 

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, instructional material, textbooks, and educational publications and teaching aides.  Ability to write reports, lesson plans, and other written communication for parents, students, and administrators.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, administrators, and parents.  The required language skills represent a minimum level of competence; additional skills may be required depending on the teaching assignment.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.  The required mathematical skills represent a minimum level of competence; additional skills may be required depending on the teaching assignment.

 

 

TECHNOLOGY SKILLS:

The employee will have operational knowledge of Windows-based computers and related technology.  The employee will take advantage of all district-level technology training that is appropriate to their teaching assignment. 

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Must possess a valid Ohio teaching certificate appropriate to the subject(s) for this teaching assignment.  Must meet the requirements to be considered a Highly Qualified Teacher as designated by ODE.

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel objects; tools; controls; reach with hands and arms; and taste or smell.  The employee will be expected to lift and move typical classroom equipment such as overhead projectors, TV/VCR’s, and computers on moveable carts.

 

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
