East Neck Nursing & Rehabilitation Center is looking for a Full Time Activities Aide to join our Activities Team!

Position Summary:
Must fulfill the goals and objectives of the Therapeutic Recreation Department, in regard to resident rights, overall care and in the general working philosophy of the Therapeutic Recreation Department, as well as professionally reflect the mission statement of the facility.
Assists in the development, coordination and execution of a wide range of activities for residents to improve functioning, enhance self esteem, promote creativity and self expression, while providing comfort, validation and reassurance. Functions as a member of the Interdisciplinary Health Care Team in all areas related to the Therapeutic Recreation Department.
Qualifications:
· Excellent oral and written communication, leadership, time management, decision making and motivation skills (e)
· Able to address the psychosocial needs of residents (e)
· The ability to deal effectively and professionally with emotional residents, visitors or family members (e)
· The ability to relate to geriatric, infirmed and sub-acute population including residents 55 years of age and younger.
· Must be able to read, write and speak the English language required
· Must have knowledge of diverse programming to meet needs of residents
Duties and Responsibilities:
ASSIST IN THE DEVELOPMENT, IMPLEMENTATION AND MONITORING OF
RECREATION PROGRAM:
· Maintains a safe environment during activities. and provides diverse activities that are appropriate, purposeful, enabling, empowering, normalizing and culturally sensitive, which encourage independence, creativity, learning new skills, self-expression, socialization and family involvement (e)
· Assists in ensuring that efforts to meet emotional, social, and developmental needs of residents are integrated into all aspects of resident-focused care (e)
· Assists in the implementation and supervision of an individualized care plan for each resident in collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team, as well as 1:1 activities in room setting (e)
· Monitors the resident's progress and have input into the resident's care plan as necessary (e)
· Maintain timely documentation according to facility policies, birthday and transport lists, daily/weekly stats and job task report (e) responsible for entering daily and monthly attendance, including initial and subsequent visits of all residents daily.
· Participates in Departmental staff meetings, trip planning, special events, barbeques, QA/PI activities (e) meeting/assessing & logging of all new admissions into system
· Informs Department Head of needed supplies, or needed items in advance and assists in the maintenance of departmental equipment, supplies, and inventory (e)
· Follows protocol for calling out and requesting benefit time as well as wearing ID Badge daily
PROVIDE THERAPEUTIC ACTIVITIES:
· Plans and implements a wide range of daily Therapeutic Activities (i.e. cognitive stim, gardening, baking, Reminiscence, Travelogue, Trivia, slide show etc.) to promote socialization and enhance self-esteem while stimulating physical, emotional, spiritual and cognitive functions (e)
· Consults with interdisciplinary staff members to ensure quality care (e)
· Plans for the resident's birthdays and coordinates birthday celebrations (e)
· Attends behavior management meetings, Interdisciplinary Care Plan Meetings, department staff meetings, and other meetings as assigned (e)
· Greets outside entertainment groups, orient them to the facility and assist them in setting up their program (e)
· Provides resident with 1:1 sessions (e)
· Assists in serving Food and/or Beverage at Special Events (Utilizing Diet Alert List in order to adhere to Dietary precautions) (e)
· Works with and assists with Volunteer and Student programs as assigned by Supervisory Staff (e)
TRANSPORTS RESIDENTS TO ACTIVITIES AS NECESSARY:
· Assists Department in the transportation of residents to outside events according to established outing procedure (e)
· Assists Department with Special Event Execution & volunteers & students (e)
· Assists in receiving residents to groups/salon services and escorting back to their units
PARTICIPATES IN AND ADHERE TO EMPLOYEE HEALTH, SECURITY, SAFETY AND CORPORATE COMPLIANCE PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES:
· Conducts all activities within established safety, security and infection control procedures and guidelines (e)
· Conduct all activities within established corporate compliance policies and procedures (e)
· Operates equipment and machinery in accordance with manufacturer's directions and facility procedures (e)
· Receives annual health assessment including appropriate screening for tuberculosis as per facility policy (e)
· Corrects unsafe or hazardous conditions encountered, in unable to correct, reports condition to supervisor upon discovery (e)
· Responds to fire/disaster drills and emergencies (e)
· Reports all accidents and incidents to supervisor immediately upon occurrence (e)
· Observes and responds to all standing facility security precautions, devices and alerts as they pertain to work and common area (e)
· The ability to conduct all activities within the resident abuse prevention manual (e)
· Cooperate with investigations regarding employee health, safety, security and corporate compliance programs (e)
PARTICIPATES IN MANDATORY IN-SERVICE AND JOB TRAINING PROGRAMS:
· Attends mandatory in-service, monthly (e)
· Attends in-service, workshops and seminars to further professional development
· Assumes other related duties and activities as may become necessary or as directed by the Therapeutic Recreation Director or Designee

SETTING:

Physical:
· Able to push, pull, move, and or lift a minimum of 20 pounds to a minimum of 4 feet or carry 20 lbs. a minimum of 2 feet.
· Must be able to sit, stand, bend, lift and move intermittently throughout the day.
· Must be able to assist with the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
· Must pass Medical and Physical examination based on job qualifications, requirements and duties/responsibilities.
