East Neck Nursing & Rehabilitation Center is looking for a FT maintenance worker to join our team. Generous PTO and benefits.

Position Summary:

Must fulfill the goals and objectives of the Engineering Department in regard to resident rights, care and in the general working philosophy of the Engineering Department, as well as serve to reflect professionally the mission statement of the facility.

The primary purpose of the job position is to inspect, maintain and repair the environment and equipment, and maintain quality maintenance services throughout our facility.

Qualifications:

  • At least 3 yr. experience in building/plant maintenance preferred
  • High School or Trade School diploma (e)
  • Must possess all certificates of fitness and licenses as may be required by federal, state or city codes (e)
  • Ability to use standard tools and follows safety precautions (e)
  • Ability to read write and speak the English language (e)
  • Effective oral and written communication skills (e)
  • The ability to deal effectively and professionally with emotional residents, visitors or family members (e)
  • The ability to relate to geriatric, infirmed and sub-acute resident population (e)

Duties and Responsibilities:

MAINTAIN THE DELIVERY OF QUALITY MAINTENANCE SERVICES:

  • Receive and follow preventative maintenance schedule/instructions as assigned (e)
  • Perform routine maintenance and repair on the facility and equipment to include plumbing, plastering, electrical, carpentry, mechanical, etc., as directed, in accordance with established procedures. Install light switches, receptacles, ballast, and light fixtures, etc. (e)
  • Replace burned out light bulbs, to include, exit lights, overhead lights, fluorescent lights, room call lights, etc (e)
  • Service heating and cooling units/systems, as specified by the manufacturer and in compliance with established policies and procedures (e)
  • Install and repair doors and other security locks, and door checks (e)
  • Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on resident P-TEC units. (e)
  • Repair and/or replace window screens and panes (e)
  • Perform basic carpentry functions, i.e., mount book shelves, cabinets etc. (e)
  • Preventive maintenance and testing of emergency generator and boilers. Have or obtain two or more certificates for Boilers (e)
  • Preventive maintenance and testing of emergency door alarm, fire alarm, extinguishers, sprinkles, standpipe systems, water temperatures, and refrigerator readings. Have or obtain two or more certificates for Fire Safety (e)
  • Activate outdoor sprinkler system and water grounds as needed (e)
  • Temporarily relieve the security guard, as assigned in case of an emergency (e)
  • Perform unscheduled Engineering and other tasks as directed (e)

MAINTENANCE EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES:

  • Ensure maintenance supplies have been replenished in work areas and shops as necessary, also ensure all shops are always maintained safely, and kept clean at all times (e)
  • Keep immediate supervisor informed of supply needs (e)
  • Ensure that the facility and its equipment is properly maintained for resident safety, comfort and convenience (e)
  • Report equipment malfunctions or breakdowns to your supervisor as soon as possible (e)
  • Follow established safety precautions when performing tasks and when using equipment and supplies (e)
  • Assist others in lifting heavy equipment, supplies, etc., as directed or requested (e)

COMPLIANCE WITH FACILITY AND DEPARTMENTAL SPECIFIC POLICIES AND PROCEDURES:

  • Ensure that Engineering schedules are followed as outlined for respective shift or area (e)
  • Coordinate daily Engineering services with nursing services when performing routine assignments in resident living areas (e)
  • Follow all established safety procedures and precautions when performing maintenance services (e)
  • Wear and/or use safety equipment and supplies (e.g., back brace, mechanical lifts, etc.) when lifting or moving heavy objects. Wear eye protection, and Hardhats as needed for specific jobs (e)
  • Maintain facility in good repair, ensuring a safe, clean and orderly environment (e)
  • Keep your work area(s) free of hazardous conditions, i.e., grease/oil spills, excess supplies, equipment, etc., to assure that all established safety rules/regulations are followed as all times. Refer to material safety data sheets (MSDSs) when necessary (e)
  • Ensure that work/assignment areas are clean and equipment, tools, supplies, etc., are properly stored before leaving such areas on breaks and/or the end of the work day, etc.
  • Knock before entering a resident’s room (e)
  • Honor the residents’ personal and property rights (e)
  • Inform resident when is necessary to move his/her personal possessions (e)

PARTICIPATE IN AND ADHERE TO EMPLOYEE HEALTH, SAFETY, SECURITY AND CORPORATE COMPLIANCE PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES:

  • Receive annual physical including appropriate screening for tuberculosis (e)
  • The ability to conduct all activities within the resident abuse prevention manual (e)
  • Cooperate with investigations regarding employee health, safety, security, and corporate compliance programs (e)
  • Report all accident and incidents to Supervisor immediately upon occurrence (e)
  • Correct unsafe or hazardous condition encountered, if unable to correct, report condition to immediate Supervisor upon discovery (e)
  • Conduct all activities within established safety, security and infection control procedures and guidelines (e)
  • Conducts all activities within established corporate compliance policies and procedures (e)
  • Observe and respond to all standing WCMCC security precautions, devices and alerts as they pertain to work and common area (e)
  • Respond to fire/disaster drills and emergencies (e)
  • Operate equipment and machinery in accordance with manufacturers’ directions and facility procedures (e)

RESIDENT SAFETY PROGRAM:

  • The ability to conduct all activities within the resident abuse prevention manual (e)
  • Report all accident and incidents to Supervisor immediately upon occurrence (e)
  • Correct unsafe or hazardous condition encountered, if unable to correct, report condition to immediate Supervisor upon discovery (e)
  • Conduct all activities within established safety, security and infection control procedures and guidelines (e)
  • Assist in developing resident safety standards for the Engineering department as necessary.
  • Ensure that all visitors and staff to the unit and/or work areas are properly identified (e)
  • Otherwise adhere to resident safety program while performing day to day responsibilities (e)
  • Report observations that are inconsistent with the safety programs or violations of the policy to the immediate supervisor and/or Director of Safety (e)

PARTICIPATE IN MANDATORY IN-SERVICE AND JOB TRAINING PROGRAMS:

  • Attend mandatory in-service, annually (e)
  • Attend in-service, workshops and seminars to further professional development

CUSTOMER SERVICE/GUEST RELATIONS

  • Must have the ability to create and maintain a demeanor that demonstrates warmth, personal interest and positive empathy, as well as, a calm environment throughout the assigned work area. (e)
  • Must be able to treat all patients/residents, and/or visitors with kindness, dignity and respect (e)
  • All staff members must have the ability to effectively and professionally cope with and manage interactions with patients/residents and their family members and/or visitors so as to ensure the best possible care, customer service and satisfaction.
  • All staff members must possess the ability to effectively interact and conduct all interactions with clients, members of the public, vendors and consultants and/or anyone within the facility in a professional manner so as to ensure the best possible customer service and satisfaction.
  • Must assist or get assistance for a patient/resident upon request or observation. (e)
  • Timely complete patient/resident grievance form, when requested (e)
  • Timely report any complaints or grievances made by residents/patients and/or visitors to immediate supervisor (e)
  • Timely report any observations or any suspicions of dissatisfied resident/patients and /or visitors to immediate supervisor (e)

  • Assures that the resident's rights to fair and equitable treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights, including the right to wage complaints, are followed.

Attendance:

  • Observes rules, policies and regulations with regard to attendance, punctuality, appearance and professional attitude as established by the facility.

Miscellaneous:

  • Conforms to the HIPAA Compliance Program and applicable facility policies for patient privacy.
  • Conforms to the facility’s Corporate Compliance Program to include Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest.
  • Conforms to the facility’s policies and procedures.

Physical:

  • Able to stand times (2) plus hours without interruptions or breaks.
  • Able to push, pull, move, and or lift a minimum of 50 pounds to a minimum of 4 feet or carry 50 lbs. a minimum of 2 feet.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, bend, lift and move intermittently throughout the day.
  • Must be able to assist with the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
  • Must pass Medical and Physical examination based on job qualifications, requirements and duties/responsibilities.
