JOB DESCRIPTIONEast Providence Providence Public School District seeks an exceptional ARMY INSTRUCTOR to build and operate the New ARMY JROTC Program at the East Providence High School Career and Technical Center. This is an exciting opportunity for JROTC teachers who seek a challenging yet rewarding experience in education.The JROTC (Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps) Army Instructor (AI) will assist the Senior Army Instructor (SAI) as the institutional leader in managing and conducting the JROTC program in accordance with United States Army Cadet Command (USACC) regulatory guidelines and school district rules, regulations, and policies. Assists the SAI to accomplish the instructional, operations, and administrative mission of the JROTC program. Responsible for providing classroom instruction to cadets as established within the curriculums program of instruction (POI) as provided by USACC and school district guidelines and policies.
Adheres to APS JROTC established operating procedures relating to administration, control, and training of cadets. Assists in establishing and maintaining viable extra-curricular activities such as Color Guards, Drill Teams, Raider Teams, Orienteering Teams and Academic Teams.REPORTS TO: Senior Army Instructor & Career and Technical Director EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCEBachelors Degree preferred. CERTIFICATION/LICENSE: Certified by the US Army Cadet Command as a JROTC instructor. Must maintain a valid RI Teaching Certificate.
WORK EXPERIENCE: Must be a retired US Army Non-Commissioned Officer in the rank of Sergeant First Class through Command Sergeant Major.DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND CURRICULAR LINKAGESAssists the Senior JROTC Army Instructor, Principal, Director of Army Instruction, and other agencies in ensuring that the JROTC Program is administered in accordance with law, regulation, and policies; assists with executing the JROTC Department functions of instruction, training, and administration.Maintains good relations with school authorities, faculty, and the student body, families and the community. Ensures all JROTC classes are conducted utilizing the lesson plans contained in the current and updated version of the JROTC Curriculum Manager and are taught as required by the approved Master Training Schedule.Utilizes all available instructional equipment. Conducts a public affairs effort in the local area middle schools and surrounding community designed to further the understanding of JROTC, the school, and the Army.Directs and participates in community service events with cadets, including weekend duties as applicable.Prepares weekly training schedules.Requires frequent weekend duties as directed on extra-curricular event schedules. Participates in the annual JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge (JCLC) (summer leadership program) as required byUSACC.Maintains accountability of all equipment, IAW AR 710-2, including items requiring formal accountability and informal accountability.
Encourages all cadets who are Juniors or Seniors to pursue post-secondary education and to apply for at least one scholarship.Completes all Army Instructor certification requirements as specified in CCR 145-2.Ensures that cadet Service Learning Projects (SLR) and other work based learning experiences are developed, planned, organized, and conducted to standards set by the RI Dept of Ed. Ensures that JROTC unit areas are neat and orderly: current chain of command photos, Cadet creed, core abilities and mission statement are present and all sensitive items are secured. Submits required reports, as necessary, in accordance with the required reports listing.Required to have prompt, regular attendance in-person and be available to work on-site, in-person during regular business hours.Performs other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator or their representative.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS STANDARDS In addition to teaching in the classroom there are a number of extra-curricular activities that will require JROTC instructors to work outside of the regular school hours.
