The head football coach is responsible for leading and developing a middle school football team, overseeing practices, game strategies, player development, and overall team management, while prioritizing sportsmanship, safety, and building fundamental skills in a positive environment for middle school athletes.
Player Development:
Assessing individual player abilities, teaching proper techniques, and assigning positions to maximize each athlete's potential.
Practice Planning
Game Strategy:
Analyzing opponents, developing game plans, and making in-game adjustments based on the team's strengths and weaknesses.
Team Leadership
Communication
Maintaining open communication with players, parents, assistant coaches, and school administration regarding schedules, expectations, and concerns.
Safety
Compliance
Adhering to all school, district, and state regulations regarding athletics and eligibility.
Developing a Coaching Staff
This includes working with school staff and community members to develop a coaching staff that works for the benefit of students and utilizes the strengths and needs of the team.

Head Coach Expectations
- The selected candidate will need to be able to report to East Rutherford Middle School by 2:30pm during football season to manage the team and prepare for practice prior to the end of the school day.
- The head coach will be required to attend all football games.
- The head coach will openly communicate with the administrative team and athletic director as appropriate regarding changes to games, practices, scrimmage events, etc.
