What are the responsibilities and job description for the Automotive Service Writer position at East Side Automotive?
Eastside Automotive is locally owned and operated in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. The ideal service writer applicant would have the following qualifications:
- Computer literate, able to learn the Mitchell 1 automotive service software package and associated software we use in day-to-day operations
- Have friendly demeanor while working with customers
- Have good phone etiquette and be able to take good notes while conversing with customers
- Be able to handle interruptions in work and not lose your place in other critical operations
- Be able to sympathize with customers and find economical solutions to their car repair needs
- Be able to communicate and sympathize with technicians when they are struggling with difficult repairs and be able to communicate with customers any anticipated delays
- Take responsibility for each project assigned to you. You are responsible for every aspect of the job from beginning to end. If you are unable to complete a certain part, details should be clearly communicated to another team member to be sure it gets done
- Must have the ability to serve, virtually simultaneously, customers on the phone and in the office, as well as technicians with various requests
- Able to translate between the technician and the customer all the technical terms and jargon so the customer is aware of what is happening with their vehicle
- Order parts and schedule other necessary aspects of a repair so the project is completed to the customer’s satisfaction, on time and within quoted amount. Deviations from quotes and time frames need to be carefully explained to the customer and approved
- Track orders and work with part suppliers to be sure parts arrive on time and are correct
- Be able to source hard to find parts and keep customers informed of progress over time
- Be able to work with fleet maintenance and warranty companies on repair projects from beginning to end and obtain payment for our services
- Be self-starting, able to find work that needs to be done without being told
- Attend to necessary office chores (sweep floors, etc)
