JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/ Objective
The Bronx Regional campus partnership is comprised of both Bronx Regional High School and the Arturo A Schomburg Satellite High School, two academically rigorous, full-time New York City Department of Education Transfer Schools designed to re-engage high school students who are over-age and under-credited or have dropped out of high school.
The Social Worker will provide social emotional services and referrals to other students within the school as needed. The Social Worker will also work together with the School team members, to develop and facilitate family focused workshops/events to help families enhance their communication with the students. The Social Worker is responsible for implementing the counseling aspect of the program’s School grant. With the guidance and support of the DOE team and East Side House School Director, the Social Worker will oversee the development of targeted students and ensure their social emotional needs are met.
Under the supervision of East Side House Program Director’s at Satellite Academy with latitude for independent judgment, the Social Worker, functioning as a collaborative member of a team, will provide case management, individual, group, and family counseling to students. In addition, the Social Worker will work with the families of students to address issues that are hindering student’s performance. The Social Worker will provide those services necessary to provide a satisfactory solution to the challenges and issues faced by the student and other family members. The Social Worker will also receive supervision from the Social Services Department.
Primary Functions
Duties and Responsibilities shall include but are not limited to the following:
- Build relationships with participating students through consistent individual/group counseling sessions
- Conduct daily attendance, academic, and social-emotional outreach via phone, remotely, or socially distant as needed
- Meet with caseload in a group or individual setting to assist them in their academic, career and personal goals. (Some individual and group work may require usage of remote platforms, or be socially distanced)
- Develop and facilitate student achievement action plans
- Communicate progress and obstacles with relevant committees as well as with, program director and school liaison
- Maintain an active list of referral sources (psychotherapy, intense counseling, homelessness, etc.)
- Provide referrals for students and student’s family and successfully follow up on referrals to determine outcomes and help resolve barriers
- Identify, establish and maintain linkages with community health care providers, to build capacity around social service assistance for students and families
- Act as a liaison between the school and outside establishments and services, in order to bring additional mental health resources into the school
- Create and facilitate in-house workshops to CBO and DOE staff around social emotional awareness and best practices
- Plan and conduct family meetings or parent meetings
- Attend all in-person, or virtual, administrative meetings, program trainings and staff development
- Attend weekly supervision sessions with East Side House Director and Social Service supervisor for clinical supervision
- Creatively develop innovative solutions to myriad challenges as they arise
- Conduct intake interviews with students and family members
- Participate in civic and community building efforts and activities as assigned via East Side House
- Maintain appropriate documentation for LTW Program and Social Service department on different data platforms, such as Salesforce, Google Suite, and any other platforms as communicated
- Provide other program support functions as assigned by the Program Director
Other Duties

Qualifications
Requisite Education and Experience
- MSW and 2 years field experience
- Experience working with urban youth, preferably in a school setting
- Demonstrated record of positively influencing youth
- Proven history of relentlessness and overcoming challenges
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Knowledge and experience in WordPerfect/ Microsoft Word / Google Suite, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and other applications.

Expected Work Schedule
- This is a full time position. Work days/hours subject to change based on ESH’s needs, pending school schedule, and COVID-19 progression.
- Monday – Friday, 8am-4pm
- Maintain flexible hours and work days

Supervisory Responsibility
The role has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
Business casual. This job operates in a school office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Travel
Minimal travel is expected for this position (on a need basis).
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This is generally a sedentary role; however, some filing and site visits are required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
