POSITION: FemaleRecovery Coach /Recovery Support Peer Specialist

REPORTS TO: Recovery Support Services Program Manager

HOURS: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday, Occasional after-hours, and

weekend work may be required. On-call rotation.

STATUS: Non-exempt

General Description: As a valued staff member of ETCADA, the recovery coach will provide a range of short and long-term coaching and referral services all aimed at helping people with substance use conditions to initiate and sustain their recovery journey. The recovery coach will primarily offer hope, encouragement, and direction to people who have a history of substance use. Drawing significantly on personal experience with and knowledge of local behavioral health services and supports, the recovery coach will connect individuals receiving services to a variety of community resources as directed by that individual’s own recovery journey. The coach will also work with individuals who are receiving long-term coaching to develop and implement a recovery plan to manage their health and wellness and build or rebuild a meaningful life for themselves in their community.

This is a gender specific role due to the restrictions of providing services in certain restrictive atmospheres such as the jail.

Service Delivery: While Gregg County is the primary focus for service, it is not uncommon to have requirements to support the other counties of Health Region 4. The position will require daily travel within both Gregg County and Region 4. Reliable transportation is a requirement of securing the position. Services will be delivered in-person, telephonically, electronically, and via video conference at varying hours.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

· Provide recovery support services/Peer Recovery Coach direct care services.

· Develop on-going collaborative relationships with recovery oriented and other supportive service organizations where referrals for services may originate or be referred to

· Document completely, timely and accurately in each participant file according to regulations and best practices ensure reporting to funders meets highest standards.

· Maintain the highest level of confidentiality ensuring all consents are accurate and fully adhered to.

· Continue to foster community development and awareness of community education needs.

· Share personal recovery experiences and develop authentic peer-to-peer relationships

· Assist individuals with identifying their own interests, gifts, skills, passions, life goals, and hopes for the future, as well as personal sources of resilience and hope.

· Assist people with identifying and connecting with the supports and services that will help them sustain their wellness and recovery over time.

· Assist individuals with identifying their short and long-term needs, preferences, and goals related to services.

· Assist individuals in identifying their personal obstacles to recovery.

· Assist members in scheduling appointments and accessing community resources

· Arrange for or directly provide transportation to increase community integration and connections

· Assertively connect individuals to relevant community resources by accompanying to appointments and other recreational activities and conducting warm handoffs, when appropriate

· Assertively follow up with individuals via phone calls, home visits, and visits to other settings

· Provide recovery training to individuals and groups

· Work with social service agencies to arrange to meet individual needs for housing, food, clothing, financial assistance, etc.

· Facilitate peer support groups in which participants help each other identify personal strengths, and interests, build social relationships, create hopes for the future, and cope with stressors

· Participate in orientation, training, staff meetings, and supervision

· Follow all policies, procedures, laws, and professional guidelines and recognize where it is appropriate to contact administration for direction prior to action.

· Maintain all professional licenses and continuing education hours to maintain a level of expertise that ensures the best care for the participants.

· Assist with operations and maintain a pleasant, cohesive work environment that is welcoming to all participants and visitors.

· Participate in community positive activities.

· Travel in Council service area and work a flexible schedule as required for fulfilling contract requirements.

· Ensure that all grant activities/performance measures are carried out as stated in the approved contract.

· Ensure that documentation necessary for expenditure of contract funds is accurate, complete, and submitted on time. (Time sheets, travel report, requisitions, etc.)

· Must keep work area, storage of work supplies in a neat and organized manner without clutter or excess items in and around the desk area.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Training Requirements:

· High School Diploma or GED required

  • HHSC/TCB (RSPS) Recovery Support Peer Specialist Certification (preferred)
  • Computer skills necessary for proficient documentation to meet contract requirements.
  • Complete required agency and contract training including required annual updates.
  • Must have or be eligible for Peer Specialist Core Training & 46-hour Recovery Support Peer Specialist Training within 4 months of hire date.

· CPR/First Aid certification within 60 days

Characteristics/Experience Preferred:

· Be a person of good ethics and understanding of ethical guidelines for peer recovery support services

· Mentoring and recovery monitoring experience

· Be able to demonstrate current self-directed recovery from a substance use condition with minimum of one year in recovery (preferred).

· Experience in community liaison and collaboration

· Comfortable working independently

· Exhibit a high level of energy and commitment.

· Experience in project coordination and production of community events

· Acceptable background check and drug screen

· Lived experience with a substance use condition and actively working a personal program of recovery.

· Knowledge of recovery support services, including a basic understanding of peer supports

· Knowledge of services in the community

· A nonjudgmental approach, effective listening, good eye contact, and positive interactions

· Effective facilitation, communication, and interpersonal skills

· Able to engage and build relationships in individual and group settings

· Ability to serve as a role model who shares personal strengths and skills

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work may be performed in an office environment, extensive field work meeting with participants where they live and work. Assisting with transportation, transport clients when necessary to appointments. Travel in and out of service area and work a flexible schedule as required for training requirements.
  • Maintain, clean driving record, criminal record, unrestricted driver’s license, auto insurance at all times. Immediately reports to supervisor in writing any deviations from the above.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds, bend, stoop, walk, drive and sit for long periods.
  • Exposed to weather elements.
