The Warehouse Manager leads the warehouse team prioritizing what tasks need to be completed on a daily/weekly basis. The primary function is to manage the performance of our warehouse to include inventory control and strategy, execution of cycle counts, freight & carrier management, and the departments talent management.
In collaboration with plant leadership, the Warehouse Manager will be responsible for the daily activities of the warehouse to include overall warehouse organization, shipping & receiving, scheduling of warehouse personnel (material handling and cycle counting) to meet overall plant needs, and proper staffing to select and receive products at the facility in a productive and cost-effective manner.
Role and Responsibilities:
Provide leadership and guidance:
- Foster continuous improvements and best practices.
- Maintains continuous engagement with all warehouse stakeholders (plant leadership to warehouse staff).
- Coach, train and develop warehouse personnel to ensure accountability, in addition to goal and priority alignment.
- Foster collaboration and common goal setting in a matrix environment.
- Employee engagement and performance management.
- Assessing current team members, identifying needs, selecting talent, and developing current employees.
- Continued development and advancement of top talent within the organization; Provide coaching, motivation, and counseling to employees to encourage optimum performance and continued skill development.
Initiate, maintain process and procedure improvements:
- Resulting in higher inventory accuracy and part accountability.
- Maintain data accuracy in areas such as attendance, quality and productivity metrics as well as identify and implement any corrective actions.
Lead efforts to control cost:
- Through inventory strategies
- Freight/carrier management
- Elimination of waste through lean strategy implementation
- Partner with commercial product line leaders and customer service.
Maintenance of warehouse equipment/safety:
- Include forklifts
- Providing preventative maintenance programs and all necessary repairs
- Ensure that the warehouse personnel have safe, efficient equipment to perform the distribution functions.
Record Management:
- Ensure maintenance of records and reports on productivity, quality, and attendance across the shift
- Engage leaders in manufacturing LEAN initiatives including but not limited to operator standard work, 5S, pull systems, empowered work teams, and structured problem solving.
Preferred Education, Skills and Experience:
Education and Job Experience:
- College Degree/High School Diploma.
- Minimum of five years of Warehouse management experience, preferably in a manufacturing industry.
- With strong experience in Receiving, Stockroom and Shipping.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Thorough knowledge of Business Operating System.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse team of individuals.
- Safety mindset and commitment to safe workplace practices.
- Proficient with inventory control systems.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, interpersonal and customer service skills, and time management skills.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
- Thorough understanding of safety and health laws, regulations, and policies.
- Thorough understanding of raw materials, production processes, quality control, cost management, and other effective manufacturing and distribution techniques.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
- Prolonged periods of working on a computer screen.
- Lift up to fifty (50) pounds at times.
