The Bridge Center, located on a fully accessible, 22-acre campus in Bridgewater, MA, offers year-round recreational, camp, and equine-assisted programs designed to promote independence, build life skills, and foster social, emotional, and physical growth. What You’ll Do: As a Camp Counselor or Leader, you’ll lead, support, and engage with campers to create a fun, safe, and inclusive camp experience. Your role will involve:
- Creating, leading, and/or supporting campers in adaptive recreational programming for campers of all ages and abilities.
- Supporting campers in navigating their daily camp activities and ensuring they are equipped with the tools and support they need, including assistive technology, adaptive equipment, and communication devices.
- Assisting with daily living activities and facilitating social interactions between campers, peers, and staff.
- Communicating regularly with fellow counselors, leaders, parents, and caregivers to share updates on campers’ experiences (including any illness, injury, or behavioral incidents).
- Using strategies like visual schedules, communication boards, and behavior support plans to support campers throughout the day.
- Enforcing camp rules and safety guidelines to ensure all campers are safe and well cared for.
- Documenting daily camper experiences to keep families and other service providers informed.
- Assisting with the transfer of campers into and out of adaptive equipment (such as wheelchairs) and ensuring their safety while navigating the campus.
- Promoting and encouraging campers’ independence during all activities.
- Building strong relationships with campers, staff, caregivers, and other professionals to foster a positive, collaborative environment.
What We’re Looking For:
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- Children & Adult First Aid, CPR/AED Certification
- A passion for working with children and adults of all abilities and backgrounds in an active and inclusive environment.
- A desire to support campers in gaining independence and achieving personal growth.
- Experience (preferred) in working with individuals with behavioral, learning, or physical disabilities.
- Experience (preferred) in providing personal care to youth and adults with disabilities.
- Ability to follow safety protocols and model safe work practices.
- Compassion, patience, and strong communication skills to build rapport with campers, families, and team members.
