College and Area Information:
Eastern Arizona College’s District Offices are located in Thatcher, Arizona, a beautiful rural area with easy access to arid
as well as mountainous recreation. The College is located approximately 125 miles northeast of Tucson and 165 miles
southeast of Phoenix. EAC is a comprehensive community college offering five associate degrees across nearly 50
programs of study. Eastern Arizona College is the oldest member of the Arizona Community College system and is fully
accredited by The Higher Learning Commission.

Position Summary and Organizational Relationship:
The Maintenance Technician position reports to the Director of Discovery Park and performs general maintenance and
custodial duties.

Required Qualifications:
Required qualifications to effectively perform job. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be
considered.

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Experience using common motorized and hand operated landscaping tools and equipment.


Essential Functions:

  • Perform a range of tasks to maintain the cleanliness and address maintenance, repairs, and related issues of the
EAC Discovery Park facilities.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, clean and dust all facilities as needed.
  • Ensure that sufficient supplies and equipment are on hand.
  • Move or set up chairs, tables, and furniture and equipment as required for college functions and events.
  • Empty trash, wastebaskets, clean whiteboards, erasers, presentation equipment, etc.
  • Clean and disinfect washbowls, toilets, sinks, drinking fountains etc.
  • Replace light bulbs, towels, soap and other supplies.
  • Work from a ladder as necessary and operate various pieces of equipment safely.
  • Performs various types of landscaping duties including mowing lawns, trimming weeds, pruning trees and bushes,
spraying weeds, raking, watering, and picking up trash.
  • Clean and maintain electric and motorized landscaping tools and equipment.
  • Perform basic carpentry, plumbing, painting, and general repairs to ensure facilities are available for use in a safe
and effective manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to use commonly used custodial equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic mechanical, electrical, plumbing, landscaping and related maintenance issues.
  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Organized thinker with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to exercise common sense and good judgment.

  • Required to use close vision and be able to focus.
  • Regularly required to talk and hear; frequently required to sit, stand and bend at the knee and waist, and walk.
  • Must be able to have repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement.
  • Must have finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Occasionally required to reach and grasp items, and to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb.
  • Occasionally required to lift or move items of up to 80 pounds.
  • Punctuality and dependability are necessary and essential functions.


Working Environment:
Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

  • Works both indoors and outdoors may occasionally be exposed to extreme temperatures and inclement weather
conditions and native wildlife.
  • Exposed to loud noise levels of custodial and mechanical equipment.
  • Occasionally exposed to potentially hazardous chemicals or agents (pesticides and herbicides).
  • Exposed to dust, chemicals, and fumes. Occasionally exposed to vibration, moving mechanical parts, and the risk

of electric shock.
