College and Area Information:
Eastern Arizona College’s District Offices are located in Thatcher, Arizona, a beautiful rural area with easy access to arid
as well as mountainous recreation. The College is located approximately 125 miles northeast of Tucson and 165 miles
southeast of Phoenix. EAC is a comprehensive community college offering five associate degrees across nearly 50
programs of study. Eastern Arizona College is the oldest member of the Arizona Community College system and is fully
accredited by The Higher Learning Commission.
Position Summary and Organizational Relationship:
The Tutor for Writing works under the general supervision of the tutor coordinator at the Student Learning Center in the
Library. This is a part-time position consisting of up to and no more than 19.5 hours per week as scheduled by the
supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
Required qualifications to effectively perform job. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be
considered.
- Minimum of an AA or AAS degree; or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
- Applicants must have received a B in the class subject to be tutored.
- Knowledgeable in APA, MLA and Chicago Manual Style citation methods.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Willing and able to work a non-traditional schedule including evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous tutoring work experience in the subject area, minimum of one year.
- Prior experience with Canvas, myEAC portal and EAC Monster Email or equivalent.
- Experience with Grammarly
Essential Functions:
- Teaches skills to help improve writing performance including paper planning and note-taking.
- Tutors students on essay types and formats.
- Tutor students on citation, using APA, MLA and Chicago Manual Style formatting.
- Reviews and stays up to date with English curricula topics and assignments.
- Provides students with positive and constructive feedback.
- Builds meaningful connections with students.
- Works with different learning styles and preferences.
- Provides workshops and classroom presentations.
- Reviews online paper submissions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to evaluate student work constructively.

- Time management skills to balance multiple tutoring appointments and responsibilities.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative in problem-solving.
