What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Lab Technician position at Eastern Connecticut Health Network?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Performs applied techniques for various chemical, microscopic, immunologic and/or microbiological tests to obtain data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Works with a focus in a specialty areas of the Laboratory, such as Blood Bank, Hematology, Chemistry, Serology and/or Microbiology. Receives and/or obtains specimens for laboratory analysis. Records laboratory test results. Performs training activities and special projects. In the absence of a Medical Technologist, may be asked to perform additional duties in order to ensure patient care needs are met through continuous work flow of the lab.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
- An Associate’s Degree in Medical Technology.
- Certification as an MLT from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or ASCP Categorical Certification specific for the laboratory section employed in (H, C, M, BB) is required.
- Must provide education transcript prior to start of employment.
EXPERIENCE: - Must have a minimum of one (1) year clinical laboratory experience.
- Phlebotomy experience is preferred.
COMPETENCIES: - Must maintain a current and valid driver’s license for travel between ECHN sites.
- Demonstrates efficient operation and knowledge of basic instrument theory of operation and function of components.
