What are the responsibilities and job description for the Operating Room Technician position at Eastern Connecticut Health Network?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Assists the surgeon during operative and invasive procedures. Assures operating suite is adequately prepared for procedure. Works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team. Assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment. Reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
- Must be a graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist Program.
- Certification as a Certified Surgical Technician is required. Candidates without certification must obtain certification within 90 days of hire.
- Must have certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support upon hire or receive certification within the new employee introductory orientation period and maintain clinical competency during employment with ECHN in this role.
COMPETENCIES:
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Possesses basic computer skills.

- In collaboration with surgical team, participates in activities to accomplish efficient room turnover including, cleaning of floor and furniture, removal of used equipment supplies instrumentation, providing appropriate equipment for next procedure.
- In collaboration with RN, demonstrates appropriate identification, handling, and processing of specimens.
- Demonstrates knowledge of and assures maintenance of aseptic technique throughout the surgical procedure; identifies and communicates, to surgical team, any breaks in technique and assists with corrective actions.
- Communicates appropriately and clearly to team leader, co-workers and other members of the health care team.
