POSITION SUMMARY:
Coordinates all facets of the Perinatal Education Department including: hiring, supervision, education, and support for all perinatal education staff and volunteers; program development; scheduling and evaluation. Communicates with and assists clients to receive the best educational opportunities to meet their needs. Works collaboratively with maternity staff and other departments on both campuses, and promotes ECHN services in the community. Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner. Reports to Vice President for Patient Care Services
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or related field.
EXPERIENCE
- Prior management experience, including hiring and supervising staff, developing, and managing budgets and programs, preferred.
- At least one year of clinical experience in lactation services and developing and implementing lactation education programs preferred.
COMPETENCIES
- Must be proficient with at least intermediate level of skill in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

1. Hires new perinatal instructors and lactation consultants when needed. Arranges for orientation and training. Ensures ongoing communication and evaluation of new employees. |
2. Hires and arranges for contracting and orientation for ECHN Preferred Doulas when needed. Maintains Doula Registry for contracted and community doulas. |
3. Evaluates perinatal education instructors and lactation consultants yearly. Reviews class evaluations, and feedback from patients and staff. Makes recommendations for change when appropriate. |
4. Schedules classes based on client needs and budgetary constraints. Assigns and confirms instructor coverage for each class. Prepares rosters for instructors in a timely manner. |
5. Registers clients for classes. Assist clients in selecting classes based on individual need. Makes special arrangements when necessary. |
6. Assumes responsibility for program development and evaluation, including new and current programs. Develops, reviews and revises curricula and evaluation tools on an ongoing basis. Keeps current with literature and audiovisual materials for programs. |
7. Collaborates with OB/NICU clinical nurse manager, clinical coordinator, nurse educators, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare providers and patients and their families to result in the best evidence based practice |
8. Prepares payroll accurately and completely. Maintains payroll records for employees. Compares and evaluates staff hours vs. volumes. |
9. Develops, evaluates and maintains daily staffing metrics and non-salary budget. Communicates reasons for variance to Director and administration. Makes recommendations when appropriate. |
10. Represents ECHN Perinatal programs in the community through collaboration with other professionals, organizations and providers. Participates in planning/organizing public speaking engagements and events. |
