POSITION SUMMARY:

Functions as central phone reception and is responsible for courteously and effectively answering and directing all inquiries for the Operating Room.  Performs diversified administrative and receptionist duties to assist in daily activities of the Operating Room, including word processing, filing, record-keeping, answering telephones, surgical schedule, processes messages for Surgeons and staff, monitors traffic flow in the Operating Room.   Performs both word processing and spreadsheet computer operations. Maintains radiation badge lists and use process. Provides various kinds of operational support to the MMH and RGH Perioperative Services Departments in a manner that results in high quality, cost effective and efficient processes and services.  Interfaces with patients, families, professionals and other hospital departments.  Enters in staffing schedules into API and updates daily as needed. Other clerical duties as required. This position contributes to creating a caring and compassionate environment through ECHN's Core Values of Teamwork, Communication, Respect and Caring.  Reports to the Administrative Director

 

 

 

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

·         High School Diploma or GED equivalent and knowledge of medical terminology.

 

EXPERIENCE:

·         Experience working in a medical facility.

·         Experience in a related setting using medical.

 

COMPETENCIES:

·         Must have excellent verbal and written command of the English language and communication skills in order to effectively communicate with patients, staff and physicians.

·         Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, and Outlook

·         Exceptional interpersonal, organizational and time management skills are required.

·         Must be able to function effectively and independently in a work environment where multitasking is essential.

·         Proactively assesses problems and finds creative solutions that support the operational goals of the institution by using experience and critical thinking skills and by applying continuous quality improvement efforts.

·         Learns needed clinical software systems within 6 months of assuming position.

Job-Specific Competency

1.      Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and promotes positive patient outcomes.

2.      Communicates appropriately and clearly to team leader, co-workers and other members of the health care team.

3.      Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.

4.      Meets, greets and directs all patients, families, visitors and health care team members. Provides accurate and appropriate information. 

5.       Completes and maintains tissue logs as required and verifies complete documentation.

6.      Answers telephone in a polite manner and communicates information to the appropriate personnel/family.

7.      Orders supplies, processes work orders, enters charges and performs other coordinating activities to maintain unit operations.

8.      Coordinates the transfer of patients to the OR from ASC and Inpatient units.

9.      Communicates and coordinates with the Team Leader and the Anesthesiologist in charge regarding the progress of each OR.

10.  Performs a variety of typing and document completion such as telephone listings, and other department communications.

11.  Enters in and maintains staff schedules and performs daily maintenance in API.

12.  Communicates with other departments regarding added cases, schedule delays, and sending for patients.

13.  Performs other duties as assigned, to promote efficient functioning of the unit.
