Eastern Engineering Supply is seeking a skilled technician to join our family-owned company in our Ft Wayne location and support our growing service department. Job Summary:
The Small Format Copier Technician is responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of small format printers, copiers, and multifunction devices, primarily Xerox & Epson models. This role requires spending most of the day on the road, responding to customer needs by providing expert printer and copier maintenance in the Goshen / Elkhart / Warsaw areas. Success in this position depends on building and maintaining strong relationships with clients in the architecture, engineering, construction, government and manufacturing industries. To excel in this role, the technician must have strong technical expertise, problem solving skills, and excellent customer service to ensure minimal downtime and maximum efficiency for our customers.
Duties/Responsibilities:
1. Technical Support & Repair
- Diagnose and troubleshoot Xerox and Epson small format printers, including inkjet and laser models.
- Repair or replace faulty components such as fusers, rollers, and drums.
- Update and configure printer software, firmware, and network settings as needed.
- Test and calibrate devices to ensure optimal print quality and performance.
2. Customer Service & Support
- Provide on-site and remote technical support to customers.
- Educate customers on proper printer usage, maintenance, and troubleshooting techniques.
- Document service calls, repairs, and customer interactions accurately.
- Communicate with customers in an efficient and professional manner.
3. Inventory & Supplies Management
- Maintain an adequate inventory of parts, tools, and supplies for common repairs.
- Coordinate with Service Director to order replacement parts and consumables.
- Monitor and report service trends and recurring issues to enhance efficiency.
4. Team Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Work closely with the service team and office staff to ensure efficient operations.
- Stay updated on the latest Xerox and Epson printer models, technologies, and service techniques.
- Attend training sessions and obtain certifications as required.
Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2 years of experience in customer service.
- 1 years of experience in printer/copier repair, preferably with Xerox and Epson small format devices.
- Strong knowledge of printer mechanics, electrical components, and networking.
- Proficiency in diagnosing issues related to print quality, paper feeding, and connectivity.
- Basic IT knowledge, including driver installation, network troubleshooting, and software configuration.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.
- Excellent attendance.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (for onsite service calls).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certifications from Xerox, Epson, or other major printer manufacturers.
- Experience with large format printers and additional brands is a plus.
- Familiarity with Windows and Mac OS printing environments.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 55 pounds.
- Frequent standing, bending, and reaching.
- Ability to work in varied environments (office settings, warehouses, and client locations).
