Eastern Florida State College is currently seeking applications for the part-time position of Science Lab Coordinator on the Cocoa Campus in Cocoa, Florida.
Salary & BenefitThe hourly rate is $15.00. This position has been approved for up to 28 hours per week. This position is eligible for regular part-time benefits (i.e. vacation, life insurance, etc.).
Position ConceptAssist with management, preparation, and oversight of the Science Labs (Microbiology, Chemical, Biological, and Physical Sciences labs) on the campus, with emphasis on maintaining OSHA, EPA/DEP, Florida Department of Health standards, and required SDS.
Minimum QualificationsThe following minimum qualifications for this position must be met before any applicant will be considered:
- Associates Degree from a regionally accredited institution in a science discipline (Chemistry, Biology, or Physics).
- Knowledge of analytical chemistry and aseptic microbiology techniques.
- Ability to perform chemical calculations and to prepare chemical solutions.
- Ability to track consumable inventory.
- Ability to perform minor repairs and maintenance of science equipment.
- Ability to maintain and cultivate live specimens.
- Knowledge of OSHA, EPA/DEP, IACUC, and FDOH requirements, safety issues, regulations, SDS, and the ability to disseminate this information to faculty and students.
- Valid Florida Motor Vehicle Operator’s license required.
- This position will require successful fingerprinting and the candidate chosen will be required to pay the associated fee (currently $36.00). This fingerprinting fee ($36.00) is non-refundable.

- High School Diploma or GED or transcripts or official transcripts of all collegiate work (as appropriate for the position) must be sent directly from the attended institution to the Human Resources Office prior to the first day of employment. All foreign degrees must have a course-by-course official evaluation and translation sent to the Human Resources Office directly from an evaluation company affiliated with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc.
Minimum physical qualifications:
- Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
- Ability to occasionally lift, push, pull and/or move up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to access, input and retrieve information and/or data from a computer.
- Works inside an office environment.
- Works in a laboratory environment and with scientific equipment.
- Works with hazardous chemicals and pathogenic bacteria.
