The driver is responsible for transporting students to and from designated locations on campus and within the Charleston community according to the established schedule. Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Safely operate shuttle vehicles, ensuring the comfort and safety of all passengers.
- Communicate effectively with passengers regarding routes, schedules, and any changes in plans.
- Maintain a clean and well-functioning vehicle, performing routine checks and basic mechanical maintenance as needed.
- Adhere to all traffic laws and regulations while driving, ensuring the safety of passengers and other road users.
- Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking from the shuttle, especially those with special needs.
- Keep accurate records of trips made, including passenger counts and any incidents that occur during transport.
- Valid class "D" driver's license with a clean driving record
- Strong mechanical knowledge to handle minor vehicle issues that may arise during operations
- Ability to drive safely under various weather conditions and navigate through different routes efficiently
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to provide outstanding customer service
- Experience as a delivery driver or van driver is preferred but not required
- Previous experience in shuttle driving, school bus driving, or commercial driving is desirable but not required
