Position Description:
Carries out the vision and mission of Eastern Mennonite School by helping to support the learning experiences for elementary students, ensure safety, teach and supervise students and by providing opportunities for students to grow in age appropriate ways.
Key Responsibilities:

- Sharing faith and knowledge of what the Bible teaches us with students and colleagues as appropriate.
- Maintaining integrity in all relationships.
Exhibits professional practices that enhance classroom practice by:
- Creating a positive culture in the classroom.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to further the effectiveness of instruction.
- Cultivating positive communication with parents.
- Seeking feedback from students that informs classroom practice.
- Attending faculty meetings, professional development activities and evening school functions.
- Demonstrating a growth mindset, with a focus on growing professionally in the field of education.
- Participating in innovative educational practices.
- Completing assigned tasks in a regular and timely manner.
- Supporting school policies and decisions.
Strives to improve classroom instruction and to facilitate the learning process for students by:
- Supporting the teacher’s curriculum scope and sequence for each subject area including content skills and objectives, instructional strategies, assessments, and field trip opportunities.
- Speaking into the teacher’s narrative reports on students each trimester to reflect students’ progress.
- Assist the teacher by following daily and unit lesson plans for each class.
- Helping to teach content as assigned to best fit the developmental readiness of the students.
- Using restorative practices consistently in the classroom.
- Regularly and appropriately integrating faith and stories from the Bible into classroom activities.
- Teaching about gifts of character and giving time to practice them.
- Being interested in personal and professional growth by participating in professional development opportunities.
- Communicating regularly with parents regarding student progress in a manner which reflects the teacher’s position as advocate for the student.
- Integrating appropriate technology into the learning environment.
- Maintaining connections to other EMS faculty and staff.
- Supporting the communicating patterns of the teacher with parents.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in early childhood education is preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with students and adults
- Proficient with technology
- High personal standards for professional development
