What are the responsibilities and job description for the Supervisor - Transportation position at Eastern Metal Supply?
Position Summary:
Responsible for the overall management of the Driver Department, which includes supervising department staff and ensuring the Company trucks and drivers comply with Company policies and DOT guidelines.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
The following duties are typical of those performed by employees in this job title; however, employees may perform other related duties, and not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each employee in the job title:
- Covers for Manifest in the morning before manifest gets in
- On call 24/7
- Covers for routers
- Covers for office clerk when things are busy
- Makes the daily driver schedule
- Takes all the overnight calls from Drivers and warehouses
- Moves trucks in the yard
- Makes deliveries when needed
- Visits all the warehouses regularly were applicable
- Sends daily and weekly reports to Management
- Coordinates all PTO (transportation office and Drivers)
- Handles all driver disciplinary actions
- Comes into park trucks at night if night Driver is out
- Interview new Driver candidates
- Sign and review invoices
- Attend meetings that have to do with Transportation and or warehouse procedures
- Work closely with warehouse manager to maintain a good relationship between transportation and warehouse
- Attend warehouse meeting every morning.
- Work close with sales to ensure Customers expectations are met
- Monitor Samsara
- Control driver overtime
Qualifications:
- Two years supervisory experience
- Five years shipping experience
- Knowledge of DOT regulations
- Familiar with Interstate systems of Florida, North Carolina, Georgia, and other states
- Effective problem-solving ability
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to organize, plan and prioritize duties
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
Typical Warehouse environment – moderate noise level. This position regularly requires standing; walking; sitting; use hands; reaching with hands and arms; and talking and/or hearing. Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds.
