Position Overview
Position Summary :
Eastern New Mexico University's (ENMU) Chemistry program invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Chemistry, starting August, 2025. ENMU seeks candidates with expertise in environmental chemistry and a desire to engage in cross disciplinary research. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence and the ability to establish a research program that engages students in applied and / or basic research. The Chemistry program is housed in the Department of Physical Sciences which offers bachelor's degrees in Biochemistry, Chemistry and Environmental Science and a Master's degree in Chemistry. The program has up-to-date classroom and research space in the Science Building and the recently renovated ($23 million) Roosevelt Science Center, as well as, major instrumentation (e.g., NMR, LC-MS, HPLC, GC-MS, XRF, XRD, and various spectrometers including fluorescence, IR, and UV-vis) to support teaching and research. This position is a residential appointment and campus presence is required. Review of applications will begin mid-February and continue until the position is filled.
Requirements
Duties and Responsibilities :
- Develop and teach a range of undergraduate and graduate courses and labs in Chemistry and Environmental Science as assigned by the department chair.
- Establish an active research program in environmental chemistry or closely related field which provides training and research experiences for undergraduate and graduate students.
- Seek and obtain extramural funding to support research efforts.
- Support undergraduate and graduate research through directing and mentoring student research projects including participation in and chairing of thesis committees.
- Collaborate in teaching and research efforts with faculty and students in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, and / or Forensic Science.
- Maintain appropriate service to the department, college, and university, including service on departmental, college and university committees, assisting with department recruitment and retention efforts, and advising undergraduate students.
