Position Overview

Position Summary
Facilities Support Technician II works the evening shift, Monday through Thursday, noon to 9 pm and Friday 9 am to 6 pm. Facilities Support Technician II is responsible for maintaining the college facility to support an optimum teaching and learning environment, which includes performing general maintenance, repair, cleaning, and upkeep of college facilities and related work as required. This will also include periodic internal relocations, reconfigurations, or modifications to furniture or infrastructure, as needed. The position requires limited decision making, and reports to the Physical Plant Director.

Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Inspect buildings, electrical systems, grounds, furniture and equipment to ensure safe, well-maintained conditions, identify hazards, defects and the need for adjustments and repairs.
  • Perform minor troubleshooting and repairs, replace lightbulbs, ballasts and fuses.
  • Complete maintenance work orders as assigned and in a timely manner.
  • Identify and perform basic service and repair on plumbing fixtures, open clogged lines and drains.
  • Identify and assist with carpentry and repair work.
  • Maintain inventory of tools, supplies and equipment, recommend tools, supplies and equipment for purchase.
  • Perform basic computer skills for managing spreadsheets and inventory.
  • Assist with moving, loading, unloading and storing supplies, furniture and equipment.
  • Serve as an ambassador for the college to students, staff and community visitors in the facilities.
  • Meet and greet students, staff and visitors in a courteous and friendly manner and frequently inquire if assistance is needed.
  • Establish and maintain a positive and cooperative working relationship with members of departments and the campus community.
  • Reconfigure and set up classrooms or meeting areas, based upon requests.
  • Perform cleaning in all areas of building and floor areas such as vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and buffing.
  • Clean and perform routine preventative maintenance on building components, furnishings and equipment. Report to supervisor on repairs needed that are beyond skill level.
  • Clean bathrooms and refill supplies.
  • Collect trash and recycling from receptacles, building, and grounds and empty into designated areas.
  • Clean porches, entrances and windows of buildings.
  • Serve as on-call personnel to assist in emergencies.
  • Maintain updated knowledge and skills for the proper use and maintenance of hand- and power-tools and equipment related to job functions.
  • Wash/clean college owned vehicles.
  • Obtain/maintain Defensive Driving Certification.
  • Operate a light vehicle to transport materials and equipment.
  • Lock and unlock doors as required.
  • Maintain a functional awareness of typical hazards of the workplace as well as biohazards that may be encountered at the College.
  • Responsible for adhering to policies, procedures and practices on safety and operational instructions. Comply with rules and regulations applicable to building codes, safety and security.
  • Report security-related incidents to designated personnel and contact appropriate local emergency authorities as needed.
  • Estimate cleaning and maintenance supplies needed.
  • Regular and predictable attendance required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent is required and one-year experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities, or an equivalent amount of education and/or experience
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and approach tasks with a positive, solution-oriented mindset.
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to delivering quality results in a timely manner.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Must have the ability to oversee small projects independently.
  • Must have the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must have the ability to read, write and understand written and oral instructions in English at a level appropriate to the duties of the position.
  • Knowledge of, and skilled in, the proper use and maintenance of hand- and power-tools and equipment related to job functions.
  • Must communicate effectively in a professional, tactful and courteous manner.
  • Ability to observe and use safe working practices.
  • Must possess ability to use and care for janitorial supplies, chemicals and equipment and use a ladder.
  • Requires ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move equipment, furniture and other objects of moderate weights regularly and ability to operate a buffer, small tools and related equipment.

Working Conditions

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:


  • Work has daily moderate/medium physical demands that at times requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or a consistent amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Work hours are variable based upon the needs to the college, with evenings and some weekends required.
  • Work is predominantly indoors, with approximately 10% outdoors.
  • Work involves exposure to potentially hazardous conditions with fumes, odors, and toxic products. Employee may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens.

Eastern New Mexico University participates with the New Mexico Educational Retirement Board (NMERB), Social Security, and Medicare.

Paid Time Off

During the first year of service, full time non-exempt (hourly) employees accrue 7 hours of annual leave and 7 hours of medical leave per month. During the second year of service, full time non-exempt employees accrue 10 hours of annual leave and 10 hours of medical leave per month. During the third and subsequent years of service, full time non-exempt employees accrue 14.66 hours of annual leave and 14 hours of medical leave per month.

Employees must work for the University for three months before they are eligible to use annual leave. Temporary employees do not accrue leave.


Employee Educational Assistance Plan

Eastern New Mexico University offers a tuition waiver for regular employees and retirees. This program waives the tuition for three courses (up to nine credit hours) per semester. Employees' spouses or children may be eligible to use the tuition waiver during any semester that it is not being used by the employee.
