Position Summary:
Responsible for patient care coordination in Medical/Surgical department with collaboration of the CNO. To ensure quality patient care consistent with the philosophy and objectives of the organization. Provides direct operational support for the unit, acts as a clinical resource person for the staff and acts as a liaison between staff and Administration, determining staffing needs and identifying problems in the designated unit. Provides the communication link between staff, patients, physicians, Administration, and others.
Position Accountabilities:
1. Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
2. Demonstrates knowledge of EOMC standards of practice, policies and procedures, emergency operations and other unit specific guidelines.
3. Develops and maintains current staffing guidelines to include education, experience, geography, and patient care needs.
4. Delivers care based on acuity level, identified needs, and physician orders.
5. Prioritizes and delegates unit activities as well as patient care activities to deliver safe, effective care in a timely manner.
6. Ensures hourly rounding on all patients is occurring on all patients and checking with the primary nurse regarding every patient.
7. Supervise all staff. Orienting to the area, assessing competencies, and skill knowledge.
8. Assists other team members in providing patient care when professional skill and judgment is required.
9. Monitor staff behavior in public areas and intervene if indicated, so the patient, physician, family, or other customers only see “on stage” behavior.
10. Coordinate resources for staff with clinical questions, to assure the patient care is being completed, call lights answered, medications given, physician questions answered, and patient care coordinated.
11. Mentor new staff and seasoned staff on specific clinical issues, physician concerns and new or different equipment or policies.
12. Direct staff duties to keep the activities of the unit running smoothly and to get shift work done within the time allocated.
13. Communicate unit needs effectively to other leadership staff.
14. Ensuring patient shift report to on coming staff takes place.
15. Perform random visual check during medication administration and verifying nurses are adhering to medication administration policies and procedures.
16. Ability to work independently and adapt to a variety of complex stressful situations while remaining calm.
17. Ability to interact effectively with people to accomplish organizational goals and follow through.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education: Associate or Diploma Degree: Registered Nurse
Experience: Previous experience preferred
Required Certification/Registration::Current Oklahoma RN license or e-NLC multistate license
Certifications: Minimum: BLS (American Heart Association)
Preferred: ACLS, PALS, NRP
Working Conditions: Are exposed to a variety of healthcare settings, including clinical, office or maintenance environments.
