What are the responsibilities and job description for the Phlebotomist position at Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center?
Position Summary:
Under the general supervision of the laboratory director, the phlebotomist assumes the responsibility for performing venipuncture and related procedures under the philosophy, policies, and procedures established by the hospital and department.
Position Accountabilities:
- Consult with and keep administration and Laboratory Director informed of activities, needs, and problems.
- Receives and obtains specimens in the laboratory, nursing homes, clinic or in other areas of the hospital as assigned.
- Prepare specimens for processing.
- Operates equipment and performs limited testing in the laboratory.
- Checks equipment, supplies, and accessories on a regular basis.
- Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of work areas.
- Requests and orders supplies as necessary to keep materials on hand on all times.
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in education programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops
- Attends meetings as required.
- Filing, charting, and other clerical duties as assigned by the lab manager.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Experience in the healthcare field preferred but not required. Must have access to reliable vehicle.
Required Course/Training: Medical assistant or phlebotomy training preferred but not required.
Certification/Registration: Medical assistant or phlebotomy certification preferred. Valid Driver’s License. Minimum: BLS
Physical Demands: Prolonged, extensive or considerable
standing/walking. Medical work of lifting up to 50 pounds and/or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Responsible for lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects.
Working Conditions:
Frequent contact with water (hand washing and cleaning), Biohazardous body fluids, and hazardous chemicals. Sufficient noise and interruptions to cause distraction and stress.
Hazardous working conditions in which individual is exposed to definite risk of bodily injury through contact with moving instrumentation, chemical, and /or body fluids, disoriented and/or combative patients.
Pay: From $12.00 per hour
