What are the responsibilities and job description for the Online Adjunct Educator in Political Science/Public Administration (Part-time) position at Eastern Oregon University?
Eastern Oregon University invites candidates to apply for a part-time online adjunct position in Political Science/Public Administration to teach 1-2 courses per quarter beginning in spring term 2025 which commences on March 28, 2025. The successful candidate will teach online courses in the undergraduate Politics, Policy and Public Administration (PPPA) program, as well as the Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree.
Specifically in Spring Term 2025, the program seeks a colleague with expertise to teach graduate level courses in Legal Issues in Public Administration (PADM 584) and Applied Policy Analysis (PADM 550). In addition, future undergraduate teaching responsibilities may include courses in International Relations, Social Science Research Methods, and State and Local Government. Graduate courses may include Research Methods for Public Administrators, Program Evaluation, Political Communication, and Intergovernmental Relations.
All appointments for part-time online educators are made on an as needed basis, and assignments will be term by term. EOU offers courses in 10-week terms, with one week of finals.

Online educators are responsible for providing a high quality online educational experience in consultation with the program faculty and through supporting the program’s learning outcomes. The program values reflective teaching practice in a community of teacher-scholars who prioritize equity and access in the classroom.
Additional responsibilities include development and regular functional use of an LMS course shell (Canvas) that engages students in learning activities, including such elements as active discussion boards, timely assignment feedback, and keeping upgraded grades for students.
Successful candidates must be committed to ensuring that every student is a full member of the EOU community and that all community members recognize, promote and take advantage of the educational and cultural value of diversity.
Required Qualifications

A Masters in Public Administration (M.P.A) or related field.
College teaching experiences, especially online teaching experience.
Evidence of a strong commitment to and practice of serving underserved student populations.
Must satisfactorily complete EOU criminal and credential background check. Having a criminal history is not an automatic bar to employment.

A Ph.D. in Public Administration or related field, or a Juris Doctorate (JD)
3 years of demonstrated excellence in online teaching of undergraduate and/or graduate-level courses.
Demonstrated experience teaching courses in administrative law or legal issues in public administration.
Experience scaffolding academic success and persistence with first generation, under-represented, and/or under-served students.
Certified in Quality Matters or other professional teacher training activities for online education.
