What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sonographer position at Eastern Radiologists, Inc.?
Job Summary:
Under indirect supervision performs all duties associated with acquisition, processing, submission for interpretation, and archiving of ultrasound images and is responsible for the care of the patient while in the ultrasound department. The hours for this position are Monday- Friday 10AM-6PM and a Saturday Rotation.
Major Job Functions:
- Communicate with patients in a respectful, appropriate and courteous manner.
- Maintain room cleanliness and stock rooms with supplies.
- Assist patient on and off exam tables and with dressing of patient.
- Explains procedure to patient and maintains patient’s safety.
- Obtain patient’s clinical history and investigates correlation of complimentary procedures.
- Select appropriate transducer and adjusts machine controls for best image.
- Demonstrates knowledge of anatomy.
- Provides patient care and comfort and honors patient’s bill of rights.
- Discusses and interprets studies along with radiologist.
- Updates ACR Ultrasound Accreditation.
- Fill out worksheets on every exam and scan them to PACS.
- Follows all OSHA Standards for Blood Bourne Pathogens.
- Wash linens.
- Validate patients in PACS.
- Orders supplies and keeps supply closet stocked.
- Calls referring offices for orders.
- Prints previous reports.
- Clarifies Ultrasound scheduling problems with supervisor.
- Calls STAT report to referring physician offices.
- Rotates to Vascular Lab.
- Start and end patients on computer and modifies.
- Perform imaging procedures: abdominal, obstetric, gynecological, vascular, pediatric exams, peripheral arterial, thyroid, soft tissue, ultrasound guided (EVLT, Biopsies, Sclerotheraphy, etc.).
- Prepare for next day by printing schedules and setting up rooms for biopsy and other examinations.
- Follows and attends all HIPPA and OSHA guidelines and classes.
- Fill out incident reports (documentation of accidents, unusual circumstances, confrontations, etc.).
- Works with clinical students.
