What are the responsibilities and job description for the Piping Designer Level IV position at Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc.?
Functions
- Review outsourced design packages against specification, rules (ABS, ABS NVR, DNV, etc.) and regulations (USCG), and prepare information for both conceptual pipe routing arrangements (overall vessel piping system routing 2D space allocations) as well as detailed piping system routings in 3D.
- Perform tasks related to your profession in the areas of general pipe design, review piping system arrangements for functionality and basic
- operation,
- Work with and mentor younger designers to expand their work capabilities.
- Review and comment on other designers’ work.
- Work with cognizant mechanical engineers and mechanical engineering group manager as required to support overall contractual and program
- requirements.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
- May have team leadership responsibilities over employees. Will have mentorship responsibilities over junior employees.
Reporting Relationship
- This position will report to Design Supervisor
Requirements
Qualifications
Education/Experience: A High School diploma or GED certificate. A minimum of 15 years of experience in marine piping design with system design experience for all types of marine piping applications.
Should have experience mentoring younger designers. Must have a proven record of problem-solving in the marine piping design field. This would include the ability to route multiple piping systems in confined spaces taking all aspects of the vessel design into account. This will include piping support methodology, insulation requirements, valve access requirements, and impacts on piping system performance from the routed pipe configuration.
Developing design drawings and/or 3D modeling using CAD Software and having assisted production efforts during the construction of the vessels at various stages, including ship checks and verification of as-built conditions. Proficiency in performing, accessing, and using 2D/3D software to handle various types of formatted Documents such as PDS/Adobe, etc., for verification of Vendor Data, Structural and Vessel Component, and Machinery Arrangements, Mechanical Drawings such as Piping and HVAC, Production Packages and Schedules, etc.
Required
A working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, and AutoCAD is required. Extensive experience in 3D pipe design software (such as Foran, Ship Constructor, Catia, or Total 3D design software suite) is essential. Must have a vast knowledge of Classification Rules, International codes, and standards such as ABS SVRs and NVR, DNV, API, AISC, ASTM, ISO, and MIL Standards. A good command of the English language, both written and oral is required. Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from senior management and other
designers. Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form. Ability to solve difficult problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, display attention to detail, and function as a team player.
