Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Kennel Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal care and be responsible for providing a safe and clean environment for pets in our facility. This role involves daily interaction with animals, ensuring their well-being, and assisting with various tasks related to their care. Cleanliness is a priority in all areas of our facility and candidate must have high standards for hygiene. Candidate is eligible for cross training to other areas of the hospital (reception and medical). Lifting may be required. Rotating weekends/holidays required.
Responsibilities
- Provide daily care for animals, including feeding, grooming/bathing, and exercising.
- Maintain cleanliness of kennels and common areas, ensuring a hygienic environment.
- Monitor the health and behavior of animals, reporting any concerns to the veterinary staff.
- Assist with animal restraint during examinations or treatments as needed.
- Support pet owners by answering questions and providing information about services offered.
- Help with the administration of medications as directed by veterinary staff.
- Work independently and be comfortable caring for animals without assistance while on weekend duties.
- Perform heavy lifting tasks related to animal care, such as moving supplies or larger animals.
Skills
- Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant or in a Kennel setting is preferred.
- Knowledge of pet grooming techniques is a plus.
- Understanding of basic animal care principles and practices.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting and physically demanding tasks.
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with pet owners and team members.
- Experience with animal restraint techniques is beneficial.
- Commitment to the ongoing demands of cleanliness in the kennel and around the hospital.
