Ophthalmic Technician – Full-Time
Eastern Virginia Eye Associates | Chesapeake, VA
At Eastern Virginia Eye Associates, we’re not just providing eye care—we’re creating a patient experience grounded in service, respect, and clinical excellence. We’re currently hiring a full-time Ophthalmic Technician to join our collaborative team. If you're passionate about helping people, thrive in a fast-paced clinical setting, and want to be part of something meaningful—we’d love to meet you.
About the Role:
This is more than just a pretesting position. As an Ophthalmic Technician at EVEA, you'll be an integral part of the care team, responsible for preparing patients for their exams, performing diagnostic testing, and supporting both our doctors and our specialty services. You’ll have the opportunity to work with a wide range of patients—from routine care to complex ocular conditions—and grow your skills in an environment that values precision, teamwork, and personal connection.
We also offer advanced dry eye treatments, laser-based diagnostics, and facial aesthetics—all of which our technicians can learn and support as part of our broader services.
What You’ll Do:
- Greet and prepare patients for exams with professionalism and empathy
- Collect and record accurate patient histories, medications, and chief complaints
- Perform entrance tests including visual acuity, cover testing, pupils, and motilities
- Conduct advanced diagnostic testing including OCT, visual fields, fundus photography, topography, and axial length measurements
- Assist with contact lens instruction and education
- Keep exam rooms clean and well-stocked, and support efficient patient flow
- Work closely with doctors, fellow techs, and front office staff to ensure a seamless patient experience
Core Skills & Qualifications:
We’re looking for someone with strong clinical knowledge, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills. The ideal candidate is curious, adaptable, and enjoys working on a team. Skills and knowledge that matter most in this role include:
- Understanding of ocular anatomy, ocular disease, and common systemic conditions affecting the eye
- Proficiency in entrance testing and preliminary exam techniques
- Basic ability to perform or assist with refraction
- Experience with retinal imaging, OCT, and visual field testing
- Familiarity with axial length measurement (especially in myopia management settings)
- Basic knowledge of contact lenses and ability to educate patients
- Strong EMR skills and comfort working with digital diagnostic equipment
- Calm, professional demeanor with patients of all ages
- Desire to learn and grow—whether you're newer to eye care or have years of experience
What We Offer:
- A team-based culture grounded in respect, transparency, and kindness
- Structured onboarding and opportunities for cross-training in specialty services
- A modern, well-run clinic with systems designed to support patient care—not overwhelm staff
- Weekday-only schedule – no evenings or weekends
- Competitive pay with room for advancement
- A chance to do meaningful work alongside people who love what they do
