A Direct Support Associate (DSA)—per diem position is a vital role in our community. It involves providing care and support to individuals with disabilities as needed. This role typically includes assisting with daily living activities, personal care, medication administration, and supporting individuals in community activities. The per diem aspect means the DSA works on an on-call or irregular schedule rather than full-time or part-time with set hours.
Skills and Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Additional training or certification in a related field is a plus.
- Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, patience, and a compassionate nature.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- May be required to transport individuals in personal vehicles
- CPR, First Aid, and other relevant certifications (or willingness to obtain).
- Must pass a criminal background check and any other required screenings.
- Flexibility in scheduling and availability to work on short notice
- Ability to work per diem shifts, including weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.
- Work is primarily performed in individual’s homes and community settings.
The per diem nature of the job offers flexibility but requires the DSA to be highly adaptable and ready to work on short notice. This role demands compassion, patience, and a strong commitment to improving the quality of life for individuals with disabilities.
Position Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist Individuals with daily living activities, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
- Administer medications as prescribed, monitor health conditions, and ensure a safe living environment.
- Support individuals in developing and maintaining skills for independence, such as cooking, cleaning, and budgeting.
- Encourage participation in community activities, social events, and recreational opportunities.
- Implement individualized support plans and positive behavior interventions.
- Maintain accurate and timely service records, including daily logs, incident reports, and progress notes.
- Advocate for the rights and needs of individuals, ensuring they receive appropriate services and support.
- Maintain open and effective communication with individuals, families, supervisors, and other team members
