Characteristics of the Job:
Counselors are responsible for assisting the director and working collaboratively to conduct activities, provide care and support to campers, and maintain health and safety conditions
Pay: $350.00 Stipend for the weekend.
Responsibilities:
- Provide appropriate residential care including; toileting, bathing, showering, brushing teeth, hair care, dressing, feeding, lifting, transferring and any other Activities of Daily Living.
- Maintain health and safety conditions in assigned cabin. Keep the cabin clean and sanitary, replace supplies when needed, and promptly report repairs.
- Review each assigned camper application prior to the start of respite and fully complete the Camper Observation Form at the end of the weekend.
- Communicate with parents/guardians at camper check-in to obtain as much information as possible about the camper.
- Ensure that the Respite Director is made aware of all matters related to camper safety and well-being.
- Assists campers in order for them to participate fully in the respite camp program.
- Promote camper independence by providing care, support and choice options.
- Communicate positively and effectively with campers, other staff, families, community partners, and volunteers.
- Complete all documentation as requested by the Respite Director including but not limited to the Daily Direct Service Form for each camper.
- Adhere to the agency’s health and safety policies, practices and HIPAA regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Respite Director.
Specialized Skills/Abilities/Knowledge:
- Ability to lift up to fifty pounds and/or assist with transfer of consumers.
- Ability to relate well to children and adult consumers, fellow staff, volunteers, care providers, and parents of campers.
- Commitment to maintaining high professional standards/ethics in the workplace.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be a minimum of 18 years old.
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Must be able to stay overnight in the camp lodge for the entire weekend of the program.
- Must demonstrate the ability to work with teens and adults with disabilities.
- Must demonstrate the ability to lead activities and act as a role model for campers and fellow staff.
- Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control.
- A commitment to serving people with disabilities, and to families raising children with disabilities.
