Essential Job Functions:
- Promotes and participates in activities that enhance individual recovery such as community inclusion activities, advocacy and anti stigma, education opportunities, etc.
- Direct services may include outreach and engagement, linkage to community supports, transportation, in-home services, group facilitation and advocacy.
- Attends team meetings and receives assignments from supervisor, team leader or designee. Assists team and staff in identifying program environments that are conducive to recovery; lending their unique insight into mental illness or dual diagnosis and what makes recovery possible.
- Promotes individual decision-making and participates in the person-centered planning process. Assists individuals in determining goals and objectives that will help reach recovery. Assists individuals in creating relapse prevention strategies (WRAP).
- Assist consumers in obtaining services that suit their individual recovery needs.
- Teach and role model the value of recovery and model effective coping techniques and self help strategies
- Attends agency in-services including First Aid/CPR, Therapeutic Crisis Management, Diversity, Infectious Disease and other relevant topics.
- Reports and documents service activity according to Easterseals’ Operations Manual, Medicaid Provider Manual and Michigan Mental Health Code.
- Demonstrates knowledge of principles of trauma informed care.
- Willingness to support and assist individuals with trauma related issues.
Minimum Qualificaitons:
- Must have served in the U.S. Military.
- Be a Certified Peer Support Specialist;
- As required by MDHHS, complete a minimum of 32 continuing education hours of approved training, workshops,
and/or conferences during the two-year period prior to renewal of certification. 6 out of the 32 required continuing education hours must be an ethics training provided in person by the MDHHS Peer Services Area. 16 out of the 32 required continuing education hours must be provided by the MDHHS Peer Services Area. 12 out of the 32 required continuing education hours must be peer-led on peer recovery practices. 10 out of the 32 required continuing education hours can be provided by a non-peer facilitator; - Be at least 18 years of age;
- Have a high school diploma, General Education Diploma (GED), or provide college transcripts in lieu of a high school diploma or GED;
- Self-identifies as having a mental health condition with a substantial life disruption and shares their recovery story in supporting others;
- Have a strong personal knowledge of what it is like to have first-hand lived experience with a mental health condition that has caused a substantial life disruption;
- Has been a recipient of mental health treatment and/or services for at least one year, with a substantial life disruption
due to their mental health condition; - Have personal experience in navigating complex mental health treatment services;
- Meet the MDHHS application approval process for specialized training and certification;
- Ability to work closely and communicate effectively with persons with mental and/or physical limitations’
- Ability to proceed in carrying out oral and/or written directions given by team members or client;
- Successfully complete the Easterseals MORC employee orientation including Recipient Rights & Confidentiality;
- Successfully completes Relias Training curriculum;
- Must possess a knowledge and understanding of co-occurring disorders (mental health & substance abuse);
- Must be able to read and writer fluent English and Spanish (Centro Latino only);
- Experience working with criminal justice system preferred (Collaborative Solutions only);
- Must possess a valid driver’s license in the State of Michigan and proof of insurance.
