- Must be eligible for certification as a Peer Support Specialist and obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Primary diagnosis of a mental health condition.
- Have a strong personal knowledge of what it is like to have first-hand lived experience with a mental health condition that has caused a substantial life disruption.
- Promotes and participates in activities that enhance consumer recovery such as community inclusion activities, advocacy and anti stigma, education opportunities, etc.
- Enhances engagement and outreach of new individuals by providing a welcoming, supportive intake experience and offering smooth transition from an individual’s first access point for services to intake appointment and to ongoing program services.
- Direct services may include outreach and engagement in the office, acute care settings or in the community. It may also include, linkage to community supports, coordination with community partners, , in-home services, and advocacy.
- Attends team meetings and receives assignments from supervisor, team leader or designee. Assists team and staff in identifying program environments that are conducive to recovery; lending their unique insight into mental illness or dual diagnosis and what makes recovery possible.
