The aide assists the van driver in safely transporting residents and from appointments and outings. An aide is needed on bus or van with a resident to assist with medical needs or other special circumstances.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the residents on the bus or van
Assist in loading and unloading of residents and to monitor their ride to and from destination
Assist in managing the seating of the residents so that everyone is safe and secure.
Basic first aid
Basic record keeping
Oral and written communication skills
Health and safety regulations
Policy and procedures related to resident needs on vans and buses
Proper use of two way radio system
Attend safety meetings
EDUCATION & LICENSING REQUIREMENTS
High School diploma or equivalent
REQUIREMENTS
Tact, patience and courtesy with residents and drivers
Sitting for extended periods of time
Hearing and speaking to exchange information
Reaching, pulling and pushing to open van doors or windows
Reaching overhead, above the shoulders or horizontally
Ability to monitor passengers and safely operate a vehicle
Should be in good physical condition to be able to secure wheelchairs, walkers, canes, or fastening a seat belt
Must check inside vehicle daily, front to back for any residents or articles left behind
Should be able to pick up a resident, wheelchair and other equipment out of the vehicle in an emergency
WORKING CONDITIONS
Working in outdoor environment
Seasonal heat and cold or adverse weather conditions
Exposure to fumes, dust, odors, oil / grease and gases
