Job Description
This position is an opportunity to make significant contributions to Eastman’s market leading Performance Films and Advanced Interlayers businesses. The individual selected for this opportunity will provide films manufacturing, quality and technical support for ongoing operations, new process development, technical assessments, and project scope development for the advanced materials film portfolio.
Location: This position will be hosted by the Worldwide Construction and Engineering organization at Eastman’s facility in Kingsport, Tennessee.
Key Job Responsibilities
Project Scope Development
- New capital projects
- Process Improvement projects (i.e. yield, quality, capability, and capacity)
New Process Development (pilot to full scale)
- Support Technology Assessments in the areas of:
- Sputtering/Metallizing
- Coating and Laminating
- Multi-layer product constructions
- Applying multiple coatings during a single production pass.
- Fluid Delivery systems
- Film Extrusion
- Film Dies
- Extruders
- Resin handling systems
- Resin Conditioning systems (ie drying, filtering)
- Web handling systems
- Casting, slitting, rewinding, automatic splicing, drying/curing processes, laminate removal
- Maintain awareness of innovation and technology trends for the film businesses.
- Film Manufacturing Quality Control Systems (i.e. vision systems, thickness, coat weight, moisture, optical clarity, color)
- Familiarity with waste removal and recycling processes
- Extruded film and resin recovery/recycling
- Dyed Films
- Trim Removal
- Mechanical separation technologies
Key Responsibilities Continued
Material Handling Automation technologies
- Robotics, Automated Conveyors, AGVs, RFID, Flexible Packaging, Labeling, Cartoning, Casepacking, quality control.
Provide operational support to global manufacturing operations, when required.
- Provide Engineering technical support during the design, construction and documentation phases of capital projects.
- Provide Project Management Leadership for assigned small capital projects supporting the larger projects.
- Define scope and alternatives for capital projects and provide engineering support from feasibility, front end engineering, construction, and project start up
- Design, specify, install and troubleshoot process modifications and equipment for assigned projects.
- Lead cross functional teams comprised of Eastman and Outside Contracted engineers while being able to work individually.
- Investigate, recommend, and implement new technology for continuous improvements during project.
- Ensure operability, reliability and safety is properly accounted for in project scope.
- Ability to leverage data to troubleshoot manufacturing processes and quality issues.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (mechanical, industrial, chemical, polymer)
- Minimum of 20 years of Films related Project Engineering, Plant Engineering, Technology Development or Manufacturing Engineering experience
- Knowledge of Project Management processes
- Demonstrated Leadership Skills in managing cross functional teams across all levels of the organization.
- Ability to manage multiple projects
- Good communication, technical, and organizational skills
- High degree of initiative to drive projects through from feasibility to startup
- Ability to contribute individually and in a team environment
- Management of Change experience
- Experience managing Optical Film Quality
- Experience with Lean/6σ, OEE
- Experience with FMEA/PFMEA/RCA
- Process Safety Management experience, a plus
- Ability to travel internationally as required. Overall travel expected to be 25%.
