Job Description
Description: This position is a Capital Project Manager position within Eastman’s Worldwide Engineering and Construction organization. The individual selected for this opportunity will project management leadership for project at Eastman’s Indian Orchard Saflex facility and other global sites.
Location: This position will be located at the Eastman Indian Orchard Site in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Project Manager Role: The Project Manager’s role is Leadership of the Engineering Team and to insure the definition and execution of a capital project to achieve the business objectives employing the process described in the Eastman Capital Process Handbook and utilization of “Best Practices” from CII.
Responsibilities
- Completion of all Project activities and necessary documentation.
- The Project safety leader, ensuring that safety is the project’s #1 priority and the Project Safety Plan is developed and communicated.
- Communication and coordination with the project Sponsor and/or Project Leadership / Steering Team in developing the Project Premises, deliverables and results to meet business requirements.
- Alignment of the Engineering Team around Project Deliverables and Expectations. Re-alignment at each stage of the WCPM process as team composition changes. Assist the team with writing goals so that they are in alignment with the project goals.
- Establish Engineering Project Team communication structure, including electronic tools, meetings, decision criteria, and roles and responsibilities of each team member.
- Establish SAP “work breakdown structure” for effective project cost flow, management and final asset settlement.
- Ensure the development of engineering, procurement and construction strategies in conjunction with WWEC engineering leadership, that reflect “Best Practice” and are consistent with resource requirements.
- Develop a Value Improving Practices (VIP) plan, ensure that applicable VIP’s are conducted by the Project Team and record results of application.
- Develop the Project Scope for FEE to set the stage and path forward for the Project.
- For Key Projects prepare for and meet with Steering Team to ensure capital plan, team resources and other criteria are incorporated into the SER.
- Follow the SER gates process. Develop SER for preliminary approval and final release, including all documentation consistent with the Eastman Capital Process Handbook and fixed investment management process requirements.
Responsibilities Continued
- Ensure detailed project cost and schedule controls are established to track progress on project commitments and progress reports are communicated to the Steering Team.
- Establish and maintain a Project “Management of Change” procedure and report changes in conjunction with ongoing project reporting
- Conduct effective and accurate Project Capital forecasting to support capital planning.
- Obtain Sponsor approval of proposed changes in execution or Project Scope.
- Ensure a Project Startup sub-team is organized during FEE. Ensure roles and responsibilities are clearly identified and that a plan is developed.
- Manage detailed engineering and construction activities to meet project premises and business commitments. Work closely in partnership with Construction Manager.
- Conduct post start-up completion audits by IPA and capital planning and results are communicated.
- Ensure project closure and final asset settlement.
- Utilize the tools and Best Practices as defined by the Construction Industry Institute (CII).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
- 5 years of project engineering and / or project management experience on >$1M capital projects
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Project
- SAP experience desirable
- Solid written and oral presentation skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead interdisciplinary teams
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Negotiating skills
