Responsibilities
As a Plant Engineer at Eastman, you'll support efforts in our manufacturing plants to improve process and equipment productivity and reliability. You will work with Maintenance, Engineering and Operations to identify, prioritize and execute improvement opportunities and to achieve reliability, failure elimination and cost reduction goals. This position also aids in support of the day-to-day operations and maintenance including covering operations as needed on a limited basis.
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
Partner closely with operations to improve equipment availability and process reliability reducing unplanned production downtime
Lead projects that target reliability and maintainability issues, reduce cost and improve productivity
Drive continuous improvements and support all site HSES initiatives
Partner support for plant outages and shutdowns
Understand and utilize Lean Six Sigma tools for problem solving and risk elimination
Identify and prioritize opportunities for reliability improvements by mining information from SAP, reliability systems and production logs
Manage the plant’s project engineering activities, including working with plant leadership to develop the plant’s annual project plan (capital and large expense projects)
Track and oversee capital projects to ensure project deliverables are achieved on time and on budget. Recognize, understand problems and opportunities as they arise and develop solutions to keep projects on track.
Lead and manage Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) investigations
Manage FMEA analyses on critical production assets
Provide reliability input to capital projects
Provide technical leadership at all levels of the plant organization with special emphasis on interfacing with maintenance and operations
Guide problem solving teams to identify, design and implement improvements
Work safely and promote the Eastman safety vision
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required. Mechanical Engineering highly preferred.
Must have previous experience in a chemical or other manufacturing environment; 5+ years’ experience highly preferred
Experience in Capital Planning, Coordination, Management and Construction with a proven track record of delivering projects on schedule, on budget and on scope
Strong basic engineering and problem solving skills, with the desire to learn advanced reliability engineering principles
Maintenance experience desired
Understanding of engineering, safety, environmental standards relevant to capital project management and construction
Capable of developing technical and manufacturing equipment specifications and detailed discipline specific work scopes
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience with root cause analysis (RCA) methodologies
Preferred experience managing equipment preventive and predictive maintenance plan with asset management software
Knowledge of common process equipment (pumps, fans, agitators, motors, valves, instrumentation etc.)
Basic knowledge of electrical power distribution systems
Understanding of common predictive and preventive measures
Must be highly-motivated, self-directed, and able to manage own project portfolio
Desire and ability to work in the field with mechanics and operators as necessary in response to urgent critical equipment troubleshooting
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (especially Excel and PowerPoint)
Effective group facilitation and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with and lead cross-functional working teams
