What are the responsibilities and job description for the Preschool I Assistant Teacher position at Eastminster Child Development Center?
- Ensure appropriate supervision of each child at all times
- Assist in maintaining an environment for children which is clean, safe, stimulating and appropriate for each child’s developmental level
- Share responsibility for the appearance, décor and learning environment of the classroom
- Promote healthy eating practices in accordance with center policies
- Assist the lead teacher in Implementing a curriculum
- Treat each child, co-worker and family member with dignity and respect
- Assist the lead teacher to help each child to become aware of his/her role as an integral member of a group
- Assist the lead teacher in providing an environment that fosters the development of self-esteem
- Assist the lead teacher in the implementation of a curriculum that reflects the cultural diversity of the group
- Use guidance strategies that reflect the program philosophy and policies
- Assist the lead teacher in the use of assessment strategies in accordance with program policies
- View family-teacher relationships as a partnership, focusing on each families’ individual strengths and abilities
- Assist the lead teacher in supporting each child’s relationship with family members
- Respect family culture and practices in the home and help each child transition from home to classroom smoothly
- Assist the lead teacher in communicating with each family based on families’ communication style
- Assist the lead teacher in the implementation of the curriculum in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the program
- Engage in training activities to improve professional practice
- Interact with each co-worker with respect and support
- Attend all staff meetings and read all materials to staff from the program director
- Follow all staff policies and procedures outlined in the staff handbook
Applicants must have experience/education in Child Development and meet naeyc requirements for Assistant Teachers:
Working on the CDA Credential issued by the Council for Professional Recognition
OR
12 Credits in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Elementary Education, or Early Childhood Education
Must be 18 years of age or older
Excellent communication skills
Ability to lift 50 lbs.
Ability to work in a team environment, receive constructive feedback and give appropriate support and feedback to team members
Exhibit and promote a positive attitude towards children, parents, teachers and the administrative staff
