Nursing Assistant Program Teacher / Nursing Assistant Program Director
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ability to organize and complete detailed paperwork to maintain DSHS, DOH, State and local program standards and requirements is critical.
- Actively guide students through state-approved curriculum and skills labs to be prepared for clinical experiences at local medical facilities.
- Organize and place students in supervised clinical experiences at local medical facilities as part of the Nursing Assistant preparation program.
- Completion of adult instruction course or documentation of experience training adults and experience supervising Nursing Assistants
- Knowledge and ability to design curriculum to meet established competencies regarding OSPI approved Health Sciences Curriculum Frameworks.
- Collaborate with the departmental team to update curriculum, Career Pathways, State Approved Equivalencies, and Industry Recognized Certificates (IRC’s), along with incorporating Work Based Learning activities in all classes.
- Actively guide students through the Health Sciences Pathways with a focus on introducing them to internship, mentorship, or apprenticeship opportunities in our community.
- Provide active leadership and direction for the Health Science Advisory Committee and the development of the Health Science four-year plan.
- Provide active leadership, guidance, supervision, and Advisor teamwork in the HOSA Program.
- Provide active leadership/follow through during your rotation as “Go To” Advisor and “Go To” CTSO Advisor.
- Center instruction on high expectations for student achievement.
- Demonstrate effective teaching practices.
- Recognize individual student learning needs and develop strategies to address those needs.
- Provide clear and intentional focus on subject matter content and curriculum.
- Foster and manage a safe, positive learning environment for all students.
- Use multiple student data elements to modify instruction and improve student learning.
- Communicate and collaborate with parents and the school community.
- Exhibit collaborative and collegial practices focused on improving instructional practice and student learning.
- Assist in establishing and maintaining Dual Credit articulation agreement(s) between WVC and the Eastmont Health Sciences Department.
- Extracurricular coaching/activities assignment outside of CTE will be approved on a case-by-case basis due to additional days and CTE HOSA extracurricular work that is required of this position.
- Excellent attendance and punctuality required.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Possess or qualify for immediate issuance of a valid Washington State teaching certificate with appropriate endorsement(s):
- Career & Technical Education Certificate in Health Sciences.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required
- Current WA license as an RN in good standing with no action against that license for working with vulnerable populations and with experience required by DSHS and DOH to be qualified as a Program Director and Instructor
- Three (3) years experience as RN
- One (1) year in direct patient care
- One (1) year caring for elderly or chronically ill (within the past 3 years)
- Completion of adult instruction course or documentation of experience training adults and experience supervising Nursing Assistants
- Commitment to the education profession as evidenced by participation in curriculum development projects, District or building-level committees, professional organizations, and by evidence of continuing education.
- Previous teaching experience in Health Sciences preferred.
- Ability and willingness to work effectively with peers in a professional learning community (PLC)
- Ability and willingness to work with both middle and high school age students is essential.
- Certified or willingness to become certified in work-based learning and experience coordinating and supervision of work based learning experiences in Career Education preferred.
- Willingness and flexibility to teach courses as assigned within the Health Sciences umbrella of offerings
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands:
- Ability to regularly walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, pull.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Mandatory Conditions of Employment:
- Successful clearance of the FBI and Washington State Patrol fingerprint background check
- Successful Washington State Sexual Misconduct clearance
- Completion of federal I-9 form
