Job Description / Duties
- Groom and maintain sports facilities, playgrounds and associated turf and landscaped areas.
- Operate and maintain lawn care tools & equipment on a regular basis.
- Grounds and turf maintenance including mowing, raking, weeding, and tree maintenance.
- Open & close Park District facilities.
- Pick up & dispose of litter and trash, empty garbage cans.
- Maintain and clean all park facilities including restrooms and picnic shelters.
- Apply fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides.
- Install, operate, maintain and repair irrigation systems and equipment.
- Operate and perform pre-operational checks of tractors, mowers, vehicles and trailers, various grounds equipment (walk behind and riding) edgers, fertilizer application devices, power and hand tools according to department standard operating procedures.
- Perform general upkeep, repair of park buildings and facilities.
- Perform facilities maintenance and repairs ( Mechanical & Electrical).
- Perform basic pruning, fertilizing, transplanting, brush and litter removal.
- Independently layout sports fields and special events.
- Flexible work schedule.
- Various other duties assigned.
-Qualifications & Abilities
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must have a valid Washington State Drivers License.
- Must have a driving record acceptable to the Department.
- Ability to work with limited supervision, and understand and effectively carry out instructions.
- Must have good people skills. Be tactful, curteous and friendly at all times and under all circumstances.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and supervisors.
- Current Herbicide/Pesticide Applicators license preferred; or must be obtained within 6 months of employment
- Irrigation experience preferred but not required.
- One (1) year general work experience in specialty area; landscaping / building maintenance skills.
- Mechanical / electrical maintenance skills.
- Shall obtain and maintain a current first aid and CPR certification.
- Perform tasks for extended periods of times under varying weather conditions.
- Read, write and understand the English Language; follow written and / or oral instructions.
- Learn and operate various job-related equipment
- Work independently and in cooperation with others; be adaptable & flexible
- Maintain a productive work-load, meet deadlines.
- Project positive image for self & E.M.P.D.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to be an active participant in Parks Department Maintenance activities.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. waist high in occasion.
- Must be able to climb stairs, stoop, bend and twist while performing normal work related tasks.
Working Conditions
- Employee risks physical hazard from mechanical & electrical equipment, traffic & exposure to noise, fumes and paint.
- A portion of the work may be done indoors in a warm, humid enviornment ; however the majority of the work will be done outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
- Flexible work hours, weekend and or evenings when required.

Pay: $3,640.00 - $3,986.66 per month
