Job Position: Accountant

Description:
Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Business and Operations, the accountant will perform: technical accounting functions; assist with budget preparation and adjustments; prepare cash flow projections; review and monitor district funds, and perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Job Functions:
- Review accounting clerk’s daily transactions (check runs, cash receipts, journal postings.)
- Record revenues and routine monthly journal entries.
- Monitor and manage accounts receivable.
- Monitor bank activity and record cash transactions.
- Prepare all bank reconciliations.
- Manage AS400 general ledger system security and account number generation in accordance with Michigan Public School Accounting Manual. Manage year end AS400 transitions.
- Assist with/prepare adjusting journal entries in preparation for the annual financial audit.
- Prepare periodic financial reports for Board of Education and state (grants, FID, Special Education, Transportation).
- Assist with property tax reconciliation.
- Assist with grant budgeting, reimbursements, and reporting.
- Communicate routine decisions and administrative procedures in the absence of the supervisor.
- Other projects as assigned by the Director of Business.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, or related field. Holds, or is eligible to attain, Michigan School Business Officials certification. 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience preferred.
- Experience in computerized accounting software, AS400 system experience preferred. Basic computer skills including: Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work independently and make decisions in accordance with established policies and regulations.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written. Must have strong human relation skills- polite, courteous, and tactful to staff and the community.

Supervisor: Executive Director of Business and Operations
Salary Range: $62,000 - $71,000, State Retirement Benefits, BCBS Health Insurance, Dental, Vision and Life Insurance.
