About this job:
We are looking for candidates who have coaching experience at the collegiate, high school, or youth level who can effectively communicate with students, staff, administration, and parents. Please indicate which position you are interested in when you apply. These are part-time/seasonal positions.
Coaches help athletes to play their best individually or as a team in sports such as but not limited to: football, baseball, softball, basketball, soccer, track, tennis, and golf.
What You'll Do:
Teach fundamental and advanced athletic skills to athletes in order to prepare them for competition.
- Knowledgeable about sports equipment, physical fitness, and safety.
- Become an expert on the rules, strategies, and techniques required for the sport.
- Support the coordination and recruitment of student participants.
The role of the Head Coach is to lead and organize the program at Eastpointe High School. Candidates are responsible for conducting practices, motivating students, and instructing student athletes in event strategies and techniques while making sure that the student athletes and coaches are compliant with school and MHSAA rules, regulations and requirements set forth. Maintaining that all safety measures are strictly followed.
Key Areas of Responsibility
- Assess player's skills, monitor players during competition and practice, and keep the Athletic Director informed of the athletic performance of students
- Develop and execute winning game strategies
- Follow established procedures in the event of an athlete's injury
- Model sports-like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards players, parents, officials, and spectators.
- Maintain the equipment storage in an orderly condition and assume responsibility for its security
- Distribute equipment, supplies, and uniforms to players
- Submit a list of award winners at the end of the season to Athletic Department
- Participate in special activities to include parent's night, banquet, award nights, and pep assemblies
- Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities
- Monitor student athlete's eligibility throughout the season and enforce compliance to policy
- Report all emergencies and injuries to Athletic Director
Other Functions
- Attend staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance
- Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director, Principal, or other appropriate administrator
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of the sport and rules.
- Experience as a coach is preferred.
- Experience coaching and/or playing at the high school level.
- The individual being sought must possess strong personal ethics, be a positive professional role model, and demand from athletes a high standard of conduct and discipline.
- Effective communication skills with athletes, coaches, parents, and administration a must.
- Have a current CPR Certification or the ability to obtain one prior to coaching
- Have previous coaching experience or experience working with urban youth and or teaching experience (preferred but not required)
- Lead for educational excellence, along with believing in and supporting all students so they feel seen and heard with access to high quality education.
- Have the ability with or without accommodations to meet the physical demand of the position
