Position Description
POSITION TITLE: Special Education Teacher
QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Oklahoma Certification for Area; Must meet NCLB Requirements for Highly Qualified Teacher with a Minimum of Mild/Moderate Certification.
REPORTS TO: Principal and/or SPED Director
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Clear Criminal History; Temporary Contract for New Hire
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conductive to learning and appropriate to the maturity levels and interests of students.
- Guides a classroom learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with those goals- establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
- Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting objectives.
- Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
- Monitors the disabilities of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required.
- Counsels with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis.
- Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
- Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teachers assistants and volunteers to achieve the best educational results and supervises their job performance.
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as requested.
- Enforces all rules governing the conduct of students as prescribed by the principal or superintendent.
- Strives to maintain hygienic conditions and practices in the classroom.
- Reports to the principal any serious accident or illness - affecting students in his or her charge.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
- Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the academic day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
- Assist the school district to provide a safe, nurturing environment for students.
- Conducts meetings, completes paperwork, implement's IEP's as required by local, state, and federal regulations, policies, or procedures.
- Provide physical and educational services as needed for each student.
- Completes any assignment required by the Special Services Administrator or principal in a timely manner.
