What are the responsibilities and job description for the Housing Specialist position at Eastway Corporation?
Eastway Behavioral Healthcare is the largest, private, not-for-profit provider of mental health, substance abuse, housing, residential, employment and educational services in the Miami Valley. Currently hiring a full-time housing specialist on our Rapid Re-Housing Team! This position will normally work from noon – 8 PM Monday – Friday.
The Housing Specialist assists program participants in identifying and applying for housing, as well as develops and maintains positive relationships with landlords.
Duties & Responsibilities
· Conducts regular housing search appointments to assist clients with identifying and applying for eligible housing options and connects them with property managers in the community.
· Does outreach to properties and landlords to establish new partnerships, understands minimum requirements of applicants, and maintains a list of viable properties for all household compositions and demographics. Compiles a database of landlords willing to partner with the Bridges program.
· Assists in finding units within Fair Market Rent (FMR) guidelines and accurately calculate utility allowance for such units.
· Advocate for consumers as needed to overcome housing barriers by developing and maintaining a positive public relations attitude and practice with housing providers.
· Educate landlords on the Bridges Rapid Re-Housing program and other types of housing programs to property managers and/or owners in the community, communicating professionally at all times and maintaining positive collaborative relationships.
· Communicate application approvals to participants and staff, provide necessary follow-up assistance to program participants and landlords as needed.
· Conduct inspections of units allocated for rental assistance
· Assists with completing monthly maintenance inspections and annual HQS inspections for Supportive Living Solutions programs, as needed and instructed by the supervisor.
· Document and communicate any safety and habitability concerns to landlords prior to move in to ensure efficient unit repairs in preparation of habitation.
· Attend all scheduled meetings, case conferences, treatment team, etc.
· Return all phone calls, e-mails or other communications within one business day. Strong interviewing, assessment and communications skills in all forms are a necessity.
· Perform various related duties and follow any additional instructions requested by supervisor.
Qualifications
· Associates Degree or higher, preferably in Social Work, Mental Health or a related field OR one year of related work experience.
· Valid Ohio Driver’s License; and car insurance
· Knowledge and experience in Windows-based computer applications
