SCOPE OF POSITION:
The Summer Camp Program Director will assist in performing specialized instruction and program supervision for the Eaton Area Park & Recreation District’s State-Licensed day camp. This includes coordination of participants, organization of activities, and implementation of daily programming. Must be the point of contact for all childcare licensing requirements, including county and state requirements. Must confirm all licensing requirements for campers and staff members. The Director will work in collaboration with the General Programming & Outreach Coordinator for all administrative procedures throughout the Spring, Summer, and Fall annually. The Program Director will oversee collaborating and planning much of the programming for the Eaton’s Explorers Summer Camp. The Program Director must be a minimum of 21 years of age to be Director certified. The Program Director is required to be up to date on certifications and ensure that policies and procedures are followed to maintain state licensing.
Work hours will vary depending on morning and afternoon shifts, approximately 35 - 40 hours per week, not to exceed 40 hours per week. The incumbent in this position must be available for training and planning starting as early as April. This temporary employment will not exceed six months in length (or 1,040 hours, whichever comes first). This is strictly temporary employment which may be terminated at any time and does not lead to regular full-time employment.
Supervision Received
Individuals work under the direction of the General Programming & Outreach Coordinator who manages Eaton’s Explorers to carry out assigned duties, functions, and projects in both routine and complex circumstances.
Supervision/Leadership Exercised
Supervises Summer Program Leader I/II’s and Summer Program Aides when the General Programming and Outreach Coordinator is absent. This position will also aid in supervising staff in day-to-day operations, with the General Programming and Outreach Coordinator’s approval.
Description
The base/starting wage for this position is $20.00 per hour, which increases based on years of service/experience.
Salary Range: $20.00 - $23.50 Hourly
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday ranging from 7:00am to 6:00pm, approximately 8hrs per day; schedule is subject to change
GENERAL EXPECTATIONS:
The Summer Camp Program Director must always be professional and courteous when interacting with EAPRD staff, supervisors, specialists, patrons, and participants. The Summer Camp Program Director must remember they are representing the program and the Eaton Area Park & Recreation District.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The individual in the Summer Camp Program Director is assigned specific assignments, job duties, scope, authority, responsibility, roles and requirements as determined by the EAPRD, department, and pursuant to laws, regulation and practices. Incumbents in this position must be able to successfully perform, be responsible for, and/or assist in the fulfillment of many job functions and duties, with or without reasonable accommodation.
The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive:
· Prepare program activities and create age-appropriate activities/lesson plans and assist children in socialization and recreational play
· Provides timely feedback to parents; serves as a liaison between campers and parents.
· Assists in maintaining children’s files including completing the appropriate paperwork.
· Prepares program materials, equipment, and other necessary items; organizes related equipment; inspects equipment to ensure safety and cleanliness; may be required to set up and break-down materials for instruction.
· Utilize and regularly check email, Humanity, GroupMe, and ePACT to interact with administrative staff, part time staff, and parents/families.
· Recommends purchasing supplies and equipment needs.
· Assists in maintaining a variety of records, including registration, permission slips, waivers, binder preparation, accidents, incidents, medical records; performs a variety of miscellaneous duties such as answering the telephone, running errands, picking up supplies as needed, conducting activities, and helping set up.
· Communicates with General Programming and Outreach Coordinator to provide quality program.
· Willingness to participate in activities attached to the program.
· Create and implement part-time staff schedule and serve has a replacement when staff members are unavailable to work.
· Perform specialized instruction and program supervision for State-Licensed programs including coordination of staff and participants in daily activities.
· Oversee Program I/II’s and Aides daily tasks, assigns duties, evaluates, and gives valuable feedback daily.
· Plans program curriculum and conduct individualized or group instruction in areas of expertise.
· Provides direct communication with parents and families of incident reports, behavioral issues, camp whereabouts, and information within camp.
· May serve as opening or closing staff member for State-Licensed program.
· Remains composed and makes sound judgement in emergency or non-emergency situations.
· Responds to emergency situations in correspondence to EAPRD Emergency Action Plan.
· Develop positive relations with customers; provide information concerning facility and program(s) to participants and parents.
· Assists with monitoring the day-to-day operations of recreation center or specific program area.
· Leads and offers assistance for recreation activities such as day camps, sports, games, classes, and outdoor activities.
· Immediately reports all incidents, injuries and /or unsafe conditions to supervisor.
· Drives 15 – passenger van for day camp trips to the local parks and playgrounds.
· Maintains order amongst participants and spectators and attempts to resolve disputes that arise; arrange support for issues, as needed. Provide corrective action as needed.
· Exercises discretion if the supervisor is not available for advice.

Education, Experience and Formal Training:
· Must be a minimum of 21 years of age, and must have completed at least one (1) of the following qualifications:
a. A Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with a major area of study in one (1) of the following areas:
(1) Child Development
(2) Psychology
(3) Early Childhood Education
(4) Early Childhood Special Education
(5) Elementary Education
(6) Elementary Special Education
(7) Family and Human Development
(8) Family Studies

b. An associate’s degree or sixty (60) semester credit hours from an accredited college or university and three (3) months (455 hours) of experience in the care and supervision of four (4) or more children over the ages of four (4) years who are not related to the individual; or
c. Twenty-one (21) months (3,185 hours)) of, experience in the care and supervision of four (4) or more children over the ages of four (4) years who are not related to the individual and one of the following qualifications:
(1) Completion of six (6) semester hours, from a regionally accredited college or university; or
(2) Completion of forty (40) clock hours of training in course work applicable to school-age children within the first nine months in the director position. The 40 clock hours of training cannot include any of the required training listed in rule section 2.508 of ; or,

· Two (2) years of experience in a leadership role similar to working with children, obtained by work experience and/or education related to youth development desirable.

UNIFORMS & PROFESSIONALISM:
The Summer Camp Program Director must adhere to the dress code provided, including wearing EACC-provided gear (e.g., EACC shirt, jacket, etc.) when appropriate for the activity. This helps promote a professional appearance and ensures visibility as a representative of the organization.
· The uniform/attire any other provided gear should be kept clean, in good condition, and suitable for the specific outdoor activities (e.g., weather-appropriate attire, sturdy footwear, etc.).

The position requires physical stamina, flexibility, and the ability to adapt to varying environments to ensure the safety and enjoyment of participants.
